Youth Soccer Camp Kicks Off To Success
The Sullivan High School soccer program trained its future Eagles at a youth camp held from July 16 to 18. At the end of the three days, each boy and girl received a t-shirt.
The camp was split into two sections in the early morning: the 2nd-5th graders got to take the field first, then the 6th-8th graders followed afterward.
Head coaches Brian Immekus (boys) and Matt Wiegers (girls) taught the campers the sport’s fundamentals. They and the supporting cast of high school players led the students through shooting, dribbling and passing drills.
The kids finally put their training to the test on the final day. They first competed in a round-robin tournament, and then, at the end, everybody joined together for an intense ten-minute scrimmage.
During their last huddle, both coaches told the kids how confident they were in the next generation of Eagles. The campers showed so much grit that Immekus and Wiegers are excited to see what lies ahead for the soccer program’s future.
