Volleyball Split Games Against Rolla, Cuba

The Lady Eagles played two volleyball games this week. Sullivan traveled to Rolla to face the Lady Bulldogs and Rolla barely squeezed by. The Lady Eagles avenged the loss the next time at home and dominated Cuba. Sullivan defeated Cuba in all three sets by a ten point deficit.

Rolla

The Lady Bulldogs swept Sullivan in all three sets, 25-13, 25-19, and 26-24.

Olivia Witt and Emma Brune each led the team in kills with eight. Witt also tallied two aces and three points. Brune made six points. Freshman, Ava Blankenship secured six kills. Stevi Saling got three kills. Emily Clonts had two kills, four points, and one assist. Anna Brooks tallied one ace and four points. Reagan Johnson finished with one assist.

Maci Nolie led in assists with 24. She also finished with one ace, one kill, and six points.

Cuba

The following night, Sullivan used motivation to avenge their loss from the road trip the night before. The Lady Eagles swept the Lady Wildcats in all three sets in Sullivan, 25-15, 25-5, and 25-15.

The game seemed to be in Cuba’s favor at first when they scored four unanswered points. Sullivan took control of the game when Brune blasted a huge spike to make the score 8-5. Clonts was serving and Sullivan tied the match at 8. The Lady Eagles took the lead when the ball was out on Cuba. Blankenship blasted a spike back at Cuba. Sullivan kept the lead the rest of the game and won 25-15.

Sullivan ran away with the second match. Nolie was the server and Sullivan scored twelve unanswered points. Cuba scored two points but Sullivan scored three more before the Lady Wildcats scored again. The Lady Eagles were up by twenty points before Cuba scored again. The final score of the match was 25-5.

Sullivan took control of the third match right away. Cuba tried to answer back and were down by one but Blankenship spiked the ball and Sullivan extended their lead to 6-1 before Cuba scored again. Sullivan extended their lead and the score was 12-3 before Cuba added five more scores. Cuba was down by eight before they scored again. Sullivan added a point before Cuba tried to bridge the gap farther. Cuba tallied two more points Sullivan added three more. The match kept going back and forth and the final score was 25-15.

Blankenship led in kills for the game with 11. Brune and Witt followed with kills again 10. Brune also had one ace and three points. Witt finished with one assist and three points as well. Saling secured three kills. Erica Juergens and Ali Blue made two kills. Carley Godfrey got one kill, seven points, and two assists. Clonts captured two aces and fourteen points.

Noli led in assists with a staggering total of 26. She also tallied five aces and sixteen points. Johnson followed in assists with six and nine points.
