Volleyball Serves Up A Win In 5 Sets Against Owensville

In the “Serving Up a Cure” matchup, the Lady Eagles (9-15) triumphed over Owensville (7-16-2) with a thrilling 15-10 victory in the 5th set.

With a huge turnout, this game also raised an estimated $2,000 in funds for Pat Blankenship and his family.

Head coach Sarah Rochleau was ecstatic about her team’s effort in this big conference victory, saying, “It was great to get the win over Owensville on Thursday! We really challenged the girls to maintain their focus and intensity throughout all 5 sets.”

Following the loss to Hermann, the Lady Eagles were eager to bounce back against another district competitor.

In the first set, Sullivan was trailing on the scoreboard but still put up a good fight, resulting in a 25-19 loss.

The Lady Eagles then dominated Owensville, winning 25-16, with Abby Record’s ace scoring the final point.

Record continued to serve aces in the third set, along with a few blocks and Raegan Johnson’s kill secured the 25-17 victory for Sullivan.

The fourth set was closely contested, with both teams breaking ties throughout, but Owensville managed to sneak through for a 25-23 win.

The exciting night came to an end with Blankenship’s game-winning kill in the 5th set.

Rochleau led the team through moments of uncertainty and when Sullivan was clearly frustrated on the court.

If Owensville went on a scoring streak, Rochleau would call a timeout to ice the Lady Dutchmen and to change strategies. “We are constantly making in-game adjustments during our huddles and reminding the girls of our game plan and what is working,” she stated.

Before going into this season, Rochleau knew that it would take some time to integrate her rookies on the court with the veterans. This Owensville win proved that these girls know how to work with each other to win in the biggest moments.

“We have definitely seen some improvements in team chemistry, but we’re still experiencing some hesitations and miscommunications,” Rochleau said. “We will continue to work through these things in practice this week.”

Record pulled off 22 attacks, 4 aces, 4 kills, 9 points and 3 blocks.

Blankenship had an impressive performance with 25 attacks, 15 kills and 3 blocks.

Shelby Giebler showcased her skills with 26 attacks, 8 points, 7 kills and 3 aces.

Emily Clonts led the team with 7 aces while also contributing 22 attacks and 7 kills.

Johnson made 21 attacks, 9 assists, 6 kills, 6 points, 3 aces and a block.
