Volleyball Balls Out At Home Jamboree
Volleyball set the tone for their new season at a home jamboree on Tuesday, Aug. 27. The Lady Eagles fell to Potosi in their first scrimmage but showed they could bounce back by sweeping Owensville in the second.
Sullivan head coach Sarah Rochleau was proud of her players for rebounding against the Dutchgirls. She explained, “Overall, I thought the jamboree went very well. Offensively, things really began to click for us in the Owensville game. Our setters were able to get all of our attackers involved, and we played smart yet aggressive. I thought we came out serving tougher against Owensville as well, which created numerous scoring opportunities.”
The Lady Eagles played their home season opener against Blair Oaks on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Stats were unavailable at press time.
They will face Salem on the road the following Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Sullivan then returns home to take on Waynesville on Monday, Sept. 9, at the same time.
Potosi
The Trojans beat the Lady Eagles by scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-15 in the jamboree. Andi Giebler was Sullivan’s libero during the Potosi scrimmage.
On Karlee Head’s serve, Ava Blankenship spiked the ball over the net for Sullivan’s first score in the opening set. Stevi Saling tied Potosi 6-6 with her kill, then she and Blankenship executed a double block to take an 8-6 lead. The Lady Eagles and Trojans sent strikes back and forth, but Potosi managed to march ahead with a 25-20 victory.
Sullivan struggled to catch up in their final two contests, falling 25-12 and 25-15. Despite the losses, the Lady Eagles refused to throw in the towel. Allie Brune contributed crucial digs, while Ava Todd and Head helped with assists. Kelsie Hansel and Abby Record also fired off attacks to keep the game alive.
Owensville
After Sullivan shook off their rust, they found their momentum again when playing the Dutchgirls. The Lady Eagles swept Owensville in all three sets: 25-12, 25-13 and 25-12. Chloe Carson played the role of libero in the final scrimmage of the night.
The two teams last met on Oct. 19 of last year. Sullivan beat Owensville to advance to the district championship.
