Track And Field Rise To The Top At Districts

The track and field team was in action at the Class 4 District 5 tournament hosted by Northwest High School on Saturday, May 11. 

Sullivan will bring twelve qualifiers to the Class 4 Sectional 3 meet at Waynesville High School, scheduled for Saturday, May 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Sectional Qualifiers

Robert York was the javelin district champion and will advance to sectionals after throwing for 49.41 meters. 

Mariah Denney shattered two school records at Northwest. She broke her own in a first-place finish in the 800-meter run with a speedy time of 2:18.94. She also set a new school record of 59.14 seconds after taking second place in the 400-meter run. The third individual event that M. Denney qualified for was the 1600-meter run. She raced to third place with a time of 5:16.62. 

M. Denney was also part of the 4x400-meter relay superteam, which included Breanna Mayberry, Karlee Head and Eva Heady. They took second in the event and set a season-best time of 4:08.58.

Abram Denney also clinched a spot for sectionals in his second-place finish of 2:00.85 in the 800-meter run. He also qualified at 4:32.23 after landing in fourth in the 1600-meter run.

Wyatt Kraus ranked second in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.40 seconds.

Mayberry was the runner-up in the pole vault event, reaching 3.05 meters, and Colton Brendel took third in the competition at 3.50 meters.

McKynlee Peterson finished third in the javelin after throwing for 33.94 meters.

A. Denney, Dock Thomure, Brendel and Zechariah Beagle placed third in the 4x400-meter relay, recording a season-best time of 3:31.27.

The remaining sectional qualifiers are Head, who took fourth in the 400-meter dash with a season-best 1:00.81, and Heady, who ranked the same in the triple jump at 10.63 meters.
