Toews’ 15 Saves Not Enough To Beat Washington Blue Jays
Sullivan’s boys soccer team fell 5-1 in their home season opener to Washington on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
Eagles goalie Alex Toews made crucial stops at the net. He recorded fifteen saves, only second to his career-high seventeen.
Washington kicked off the game with multiple strikes and netted their first score just seven minutes in.
The Blue Jays nearly grabbed a second goal right after, but Sullivan’s defense got the stop. Aiden Lawrence blocked Washington’s shot, and Luke Schlueter deflected another strike with his legs.
The Eagles tried to capitalize on Washington’s fouls. Luke Herron missed a free-kick attempt but executed a game-tying penalty shot.
The Blue Jays put themselves ahead by one goal before halftime. Washington cushioned their lead with three more scores in the second period, taking a 5-1 victory.
Herron led Sullivan with three shots, while Carsen Dudley, Mason Mertz and Ben Tanner each fired one.
