Sullivan XC Country Marks Another Historic Year
Head coach Terry Wood was very impressed with the progress he saw in each member of his cross country team this year.
He was proud of seniors Jade Studdard, Alexandra McLain-Williams and Ian Studdard for breaking their personal bests at districts in Nixa. Studdard achieved hers at 24:03.66, Alexandra McLain-Williams reached a career-high of 28:38.44 and Ian Studdard finally broke under 20 minutes at 19:42.59. Ayden Duncan, Nolan Studdard, William Hunter and Maria Schatzl beat their records at districts as well.
Then, freshman Samuel Simington, who had an outstanding rookie season, also made his best time of 21:14.55 at districts. He also earned a medal for his 10th-place finish at the conference championship.
Freshman Eden Lambert also showed much potential, with her fastest time clocking in at 21:37.21 at districts. She finished 6th at the Sullivan Invitational and 7th in St. James.
Senior Breanna Maybery’s highest finish came at districts as well and she also medaled at the Sullivan Invitational when she made 7th place.
Sophomores Aiden Lawrence set his personal best this season at the Gans Creek Classic and Elijah Pritchett did the same at the Missouri Southern Stampede.
Then, for the juniors, Zechariah Beagle set a personal record in the 5k race, finishing 10th at the St. James Invitational. He also medaled at the conference with a 13th place finish.
Another junior, Melody Brauninger’s best time was at the Missouri Southern Stampede.
Lastly, for the seniors, Peyton Evans recorded his strongest time at the Missouri Southern Stampede and Parker Whaley achieved his highest time at the Missouri Southern Stampede.
Junior Abram Denney had a stellar season, breaking the Sullivan High School 2-mile record at the Fleet Feet Classic and also the team record for the 5k at the state level.
Freshman Mariah Denney made history by securing 1st place in various competitions. She broke Sullivan’s 5k record like her brother at the district level and also achieved the fastest 1-mile time. Individually, she secured an impressive 2nd place at districts and 5th place at the state level.
