Sullivan Strong On Tuesday

Fall To Francis Howell On Monday

 

The Lady Eagles were squeezed 3-0 by Francis Howell on Monday, but popped off against St. Clair the next night.

Jaedin Blankenship got the start at Sullivan Bank Ballpark on Tuesday and delivered on the mound despite coming off an injury. Sullivan surged past St. Clair 15-0.

Evvie Blankenship delivered a stellar performance on the mound, going all seven innings, but picking up the loss. She had five strikeouts and she only gave up three runs on four hits.

Things looked promising when the Lady Spartans went down in order in the first. Morgan Braun singled on a hard ground ball in the bottom of the first, but was stranded.

Blankenship sat down the Spartans again in the second. Sullivan tried to draw first blood when they came to bat. Evvie Blankenship led off with a line drive single to center, though the Lady Eagles failed to push her home.

In the top of the third, Walkowiak of Francis Howell landed on first after an error by Sullivan. She then stole second and scored on the next play. Francis Howell scored another run before the side was retired.

Sullivan fell 3-0. Evvie and Jaedin Blankenship each recorded hits. Kayla Ulrich and Braun had hits as well.

St. Clair

The hits rained down the next day.

The Lady Eagles delivered big hits that kept the runs coming. They slammed nine runs in the first inning and gained early control of the game.

Sullivan was victorious, 15-0.

Jaedin Blankenship was a star on the mound from the beginning when she recorded two strikeouts in the first and didn't give up a hit.

Ulrich was the first batter for Sullivan and she walked. The next batter got out, but Jaedin Blankenship walked. Head Coach Ashley Crump moved Jaedin up in the lineup, as she’s recovering from her injury.

Ulrich moved to third on a wild pitch and the bases were loaded after Hannah Campbell was walked. Ulrich then scored on a passed ball and the bases were loaded again after Grace Halmick was walked. Another run came home after Braun was walked. The Lady Bulldogs were struggling on the mound as Molly Lohden was walked and another runscored.

The bases were cleared after Dorie Richardson rocked a ground ball to left field for a double. After an out, the top of lineup started over and Ulrich drew another walk. She then stole second before Alexis Funkhouser delivered a hard ground ball that put her on first and the runners scored.

The bases were loaded again after Jaedin hit a single and Campbell was walked a second time. St. Clair made a pitching change, but Halmick was walked again and the ninth run of the game was scored.

In the bottom of the second, Sullivan kept up the domination. Lohden walked after an out. Richardson was struck by a pitch after Lohden stole second. Lohden was out at third when Hayli Venable grounded into a fielder's choice.

Ulrich was then struck by another pitch and the bases were loaded. Ava DeClue came in as a courtesy runner for Richardson and scored on a passed ball. The runners advanced on the same pitch and Funkhouser hit a ground ball and reached on an error. Venable scored on the same play.

In the bottom of the third, the game was called after Sullivan scored their 15th run. Campbell and Halmick walked again. They then advanced on a passed ball. Braun hit a ground ball and reached on an error. Campbell scored on the same play. Halmick scored on a wild pitch that advanced the runners. Lohden walked again, before Braun was scored on a wild pitch. Richardson was walked and the winning run was scored after Ulrich hit a successful sacrifice fly to right to score Lohden.

Jaedin Blankenship had an amazing showing on the nine as she didn't give up a single run. She only gave up one hit and had a staggering seven strikeouts.
