Sullivan Shuts Out North County

Kaden Smith played his best game so far as the young goalkeeper. He played all 80 minutes and saved the ball four times from seeing the back of the net. Sullivan defeated the North County Raiders at home, 2-0.

“We just feel like every game we’re getting better on the defensive end,” said Head Coach Brian Immekus. “We’re starting to get pieces in place and the goalkeeper’s experience is higher and higher.”

Sullivan scored the first goal of the game within the first five minutes of play. The freshman Josiah Tanner sailed a ball just out of North County’s reach. He was assisted by the senior Trevor Alexander. Smith kept the ball from touching the back of the net and Dock Thomure had a big fast break down the field with a little over 10 minutes left in the first half. Sullivan’s second and final goal happened with a little over six minutes left to play in the first half. Zechariah Beagle scored the goal after Alexander moved the ball down the field and had a good juke to pass the ball to the sophomore Mason Mertz, who picked up the assist on the goal.

This was the second game this season that Sullivan led at halftime. The Eagles kept up the good ball control and defense in the second half of the game. Max Avery performed well on the defense and Wyatt Kraus held the Raiders from having a momentum shift. The freshman, Aiden Lawrence, made pivotal plays on the defense to help Sullivan shut out North County. Kraus controlled the Raiders and made another big stop with a little over twenty two minutes left of regular play. The defense was the difference maker in the game to help shut out North County for the victory, 2-0.

“Tanner and Beagle are leading us in goals so far this year,” continued Coach Immekus. “I think they’re showing a lot of potential as far as being able to get the ball in the back of the net.”

Alexander led the team in shots with two. Beagle, Tanner, Thomure, and Eli Peregoy also had shots on the day.
