Sullivan Lady Eagles Split Games This Week

After a difficult loss earlier in the week, the Lady Eagles soared at home against Warrenton.

Following a 5-0 loss to the Washington Lady Blue Jays, Sullivan shined in a 7-1 win against the Warriors.

They displayed the teamwork and resiliency that has become a hallmark of their season.

Washington

Sullivan allowed two goals in the first 10 minutes of a loss to Washington.

The Lady Eagles lost their step in the first half of the game and Washington capitalized against them.

"We've got to come out more aggressive at the beginning of games," said head coach Bill Kackley.

Washington's Avery Lanemann made two quick goals.

The Lady Blue Jays came out full steam for the second half, scoring three more goals.

Maria Schatzl spent 80 minutes in goal and made seven saves.

Warrenton

Sullivan came out more aggressive against Warrenton.

The Lady Eagles took flight early in the first half. Abby Wiegers scored a goal in the right hand corner in the first two minutes.

"We were a little more aggressive on the ball I felt then we had been all year," Kackley said.

The Lady Eagles were better at defense and controlling the ball. Their victory at the Owensville Tournament gave them the extra motivation that they needed to finish strong on the year.

Wiegers scored again in the first half with around 20 minutes left.

Brune continued the aggressive control and scored within the first two minutes of the second half.

Just two minutes later, Wiegers sailed another one to the back of the net.

"Proud of the way they made the extra passes too," Kackley said. "Because at times I felt like we were kind of selfish throughout the year."

Cambria Pohlman made a perfect goal after being set up with a corner kick.

Emily Willman passed the ball to Pohlman, who sailed it into the open net.

Almost five minutes later, Pohlman added another net to the day. Her ball glanced off the goal post and into the net behind the goalie.

Sullivan secured the win after freshman Shelby Giebler blasted a ball past Warrenton from about 20 yards back with around eight minutes left of play.

"Mistake and not just picking the ball up, instead of just trying to sell and then just pick it up," Kackley said about the Warrenton goal. "Girls were coming on strong."

The Lady Warrior almost scored two goals but were called offsides.

Brune and Giebler scored a goal. Pohlman scored two and Wiegers, three. Emily Willman led in assists with four. She was followed by Brune with two, and Molly Lohden finished with one assist.

Schatzl played all 80 minutes as the goalkeeper for Sullivan. She only allowed the ball in the net one time. She saved the ball two other times.
