Sullivan Lady Eagles Split Against Pacific, Hermann

Sullivan’s volleyball team played two games this week before traveling to Troy Buchanan.

Pacific came to Sullivan on Tuesday and the Lady Eagles won in four sets.

On Thursday, Sullivan traveled to Hermann and fell in four sets.

Pacific

Sullivan volleyball has been coming alive in time with the postseason in sight.

The Lady Eagles have had great team work that has been a stand out feature all season. Their game at home against Pacific proved Sullivan isn’t slowing down any time soon.

The Lady Eagles won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-13. The Lady Indians barely squeezed by in the third set, 25-23. Sullivan secured the win in the final set, 25-18.

In the first set, Sullivan scored two quick points and Pacific answered back. Freshman Ava Blankenship spiked the ball back to Pacific and Sullivan went on another rally. Pacific began to come alive when they tied the game at 5-5, but Sullivan shut them down.

The Lady Indians tied the game again at nine, but Sullivan wasn’t going down without a fight. The Lady Indians took the lead but after a long volley, Sullivan tied the game at twelve. The Lady Eagles took the lead by three and Pacific was forced to take a time out trailing 16-13.

Sullivan extended their lead and the Lady Indians used another time out when Sullivan was up late in the match, 22-18. Sullivan head coach Sarah Rochleau took a timeout when Pacific made a good run and Sullivan was only up by two. The Lady Eagles prevailed and the final score was 25-21.

In the second set, Sullivan collapsed Pacific early. The Lady Eagles started the match with five unanswered points. The Lady Inidians came alive and were only down by one, but Sullivan killed the momentum. Emma Brune delivered a huge spike to keep Sullivan up by four. Pacific took a timeout when Sullivan was up, 12-7. Anna Brooks was serving and Sullivan was up 16-9 before the Lady Indians scored again. Maci Nolie was serving and Pacific was down and took a timeout when the score was 18-10. The Lady Indians couldn’t come up with the win, 25-13.

In the third set, Pacific barely pulled off the win. The match turned bleak quickly and Coach Rochleau took a timeout when Sullivan was down 6-1. The Sullivan home crowd was still load and supporting their team with Sullivan only down 8-4. The Lady Eagles battled back and were only down by one when Blankenship blasted another spike over the net. Pacific extended their lead and Sullivan was down 15-11.

Emily Clonts was the server and Pacific took a timeout with Pacific up, 18-16. Sullivan tied the score up at 18, but the loud home crowd came alive when Sullivan tied the score at 19. Rochleau took a timeout to motivate her team when Sullivan was down by 22-21. After a long volley, Sullivan fell 25-23.

In the final set, Sullivan finished Pacific. The Lady Indians took an early lead, but Olivia Witt made the score 4-2 when she sent a ball over the net.

Brune delivered another spike to add another score. Sullivan tied the score at 8 when Brooks was serving aces. Witt drove another spike and Pacific took a timeout when Sullivan was up 11-8. The Lady Eagles extended their lead and the Lady Indians burned another timeout with Sullivan up 16-9.

Sullivan was up by seven when Blankenship blasted another spike down Pacific's throat. After a long volley and Clonts serving, Sullivan was up 19-12. Brune made another spike to give Sullivan the edge, 21-14.

The spikes kept coming and Witt added another one to make it 23-15. Sullivan claimed the game victory by a 25-18 final.

Brune led the team in kills with 19. She also had four blocks and two points. Witt followed in kills with 13. She scored one ace and 10 points. Blankenship finished with ten kills. Stevi Saling tallied six kills.

Raegan Johnson placed five kills and four points with one assist.

Nolie tallied a tremendous 45 assists. She also recorded three kills, five aces, and 13 points. Clonts and Brooks each finished with three aces.

Hermann

The Lady Eagles collapsed under Hermann in four sets. Hermann won the first set, 25-20. The Lady Eagles surged past Hermann in the second set, 25-23. The Lady Bearcats defeated Sullivan in the last two sets, 25-15 and 25-23.

Brune led in kills with 15. Witt followed in kills again with 9. She also got an ace and five points.

Blankenship tallied seven kills. Saling secured four kills. Johnson made two kills and one ace. Brooks took two aces and six assists. Clonts collected two aces and eight points.

Nolie finished with 28 assists, one ace, and nine points.
