Sullivan Has Late Game Rally But Falls Short

The Lady Eagles softball team came alive in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough to secure the victory. Windsor shined with three home runs on the day. It was one such home run that won the game for Windsor in the bottom of the seventh inning. This was the first game back since the Peoples Bank Back To School Softball Classic. The Lady Eagles played five games during the two days of the home tournament. Sullivan then traveled to Windsor on Thursday and barely fell, 4-3.

Windsor drew first blood in the bottom of the third inning. Williams singled and was followed by Davis with a ground ball single. The Lady Eagles recorded an out but the runners advanced. Fendler hit a double and the first run of the game was scored by Windsor. The Lady Owls extended their lead at the bottom of the fifth inning with a home run by Davis.

Sullivan rallied for a win at the top of the sixth inning. Morgan Braun was the first batter and she singled on a line drive. Dorie Richardson was the next batter and she singled on a fly ball to center and advanced Braun. Hayli Venable sacrificed but landed on an error and the bases were loaded. Braun scored and the runners advanced on an error. Hannah Campbell then bunt into a fielder’s choice. Campbell advanced to second as Venable was out at home and Richardson scored. Campbell scored on a line drive single by Carli McCreary.

Davis and Veselke both solo homered in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win.

The Lady Eagles tallied 11 hits and three runs. Evvie Blankenship was on the mound for Sullivan for six innings. She only gave up four runs off nine hits. She recorded a staggering seven strikeouts on the day.
