Sullivan Football Beats Brakes Off Dutchmen On Senior Night
The Eagles (5-3) silenced Owensville (0-8) in a 49-14 blowout on Friday, Oct. 18. They delivered their rout over the Dutchmen on pink out and senior night.
Sullivan’s ground game racked up a season-high 507 yards against Owensville.
Mark Jennings led the Eagles with 247 rushing yards on ten carries. He punched in three touchdowns and a two-point conversion.
Chase Blue played lights out with 114 yards on the ground, averaging 10.36 per rush. He made three trips to the end zone, tallying 18 points.
Quarterback Robert York II scrambled for 58 yards. He broke through the plane for eight points, including a two-yard strike to Seth Valley.
Oliver Borton dashed for 19 yards.
Freshmen Nathan Garcia picked up 46 yards, Hayden Oldham rushed for 11, Sheldon Rodgers gained nine and quarterback Mahlon Foster snuck for three.
Sullivan’s defense wreaked havoc with three interceptions. Valley, R. York and Brennan Koepke each picked off a pass.
Cameron York recovered an Owensville fumble on a punt return.
The Eagles set the tone for the game on their opening drive. Jennings rushed downfield to set Sullivan on their 22-yard line. R. York followed up with a scramble into the end zone, taking it to the house. Kicker Kaden Smith drilled the extra point through the uprights for a 7-0 lead.
The Eagles continued to fire on all cylinders. Blue sliced through the defensive line to gain a fresh set of downs. Jennings dashed for 34 yards to etch his name into the scorebook, putting the Eagles ahead 13-0 just three minutes in.
On Sullivan’s following scoring possession, Jennings stormed down the gridiron for 43 yards, and Borton sprinted for 13. Blue then pounded 19 yards up the gut and extended his arm across the goal line for a 19-point lead.
The Eagles fumbled when they returned on offense, allowing Owensville to make their first trip to the end zone.
Sullivan responded with two more touchdowns to close out the first half. Jennings zigzagged through the Dutchmen, then broke the plane for a 25-7 lead.
Valley picked off the Dutchmen on Owensville’s following drive. His interception allowed Jennings to make a 64-yard touchdown run with 42 seconds left on the clock. R. York then connected on a pass to Valley for the two-point conversion.
R. York intercepted a Dutchman strike in the end zone to cap off the first half.
His brother Cameron York started the third quarter on a high note. He recovered an Owensville fumble on the opening punt return. Blue moved the sticks with his power rushes, then crossed the goal line again. R. York used his legs for two extra points, seizing a 41-7 lead.
Owensville responded with their second touchdown right after. They tried to surprise the Eagles with an onside kick, but Koepke of Sullivan recovered it. Jennings then sprinted for 32 yards, and Blue punched his team’s final score for 10 yards. Jennings then trucked defenders to convert for two points.
