Sullivan Finishes Fourth At St. James Tourney

The Sullivan boys basketball team traveled to St. James this week. The varsity team competed on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday for consolation. Sullivan fell to Rush in overtime in the first game, 58-57. The Eagles slayed Salem on Thursday, 55-33. Sullivan fell to Waynesville during the consolation game, 42-35.

Rush

The Eagles started the tournament with a heartbreaker from Rush. Sullivan trailed Rush at the end of the first quarter, 14-11. The Eagles led at the end of the first half, 25-20. The score was tied at 35 at the start of the fourth quarter. Sullivan had the lead with forty-three seconds left, 49-48. The game was tied at 51 when the Eagles went into overtime. Rush defeated Sullivan, 58-57.

Drake Gawer led in points with 20 and was followed by Aiden Kirk with 12. Sam Summers made 11. Gabe and Gavin Dace got seven and five points. Cambrian Koch finished with two points.

Sullivan’s defense kept Rush fighting and forced 17 turnovers. The Eagles finished with six steals and Gavin Dace and Summers led with two each. Gabe Dace and Koch each had one. Sullivan collected 24 rebounds. Summers, Kirk, and Gabe Dace each had six. Gavin Dace followed with five and Gawer finished with one.

Salem

Sullivan led Salem by one in the first quarter, 9-8. The Eagles held the lead at the end of the first half, 24-12. Sullivan started the fourth quarter in the lead, 40-28. The Eagles put away the Tigers, 55-33.

Summers led in points this time with 21. Gavin Dace and Kirk each scored ten points. Chris Glaser and Gawer each had five. Cooper Donner and Koch finished with two points each.

The Eagles defense forced 19 turnovers and had seven steals. Gavin Dace and Kirk each had two steals. Glaser, Summers, and Ian Tutterow finished with one each. Sullivan tallied 38 rebounds. Gavin Dace led with 12 and Kirk followed with nine. Summers tallied eight and was followed by Glaser with four. Gawer and Koch each had two. Matthew Mallory collected one.

Waynesville

The Eagles fell to Waynesvile in the consolation game, 42-35.

Gawer led in points with 12 and Summers followed with nine. Glaser had six and was followed by Gavin Dace with five. Kirk finished with three.

Sullivan forced eleven turnovers and had only two steals. Gavin Dace and Seth Valley each had one. The Eagles tallied 21 rebounds. Summers led with six and was followed by Gavin Dace with five. Kirk had four and was followed by Glaser with three. Gawer finished with one.
