Sullivan Finishes Fourth In Holiday Classic

The St. James Lady Tigers won the 11th Annual Peoples Bank Holiday Classic. St. James defeated the Owensville Dutch girls by two points, 46-44. Sullivan played the Steelville Lady Cardinals for third place. Steelville was victorious in a close game, 45-41.

In the first quarter, the Lady Cardinals outscored Sullivan by seven. The game started when Steelville’s Abby Kreitner netted a three point basket. Dakayla McClain landed a layup and Steelville found Daylan Pryor under the basket for a layup. She then sailed in a three point basket. Steelville’s Tobi Pennock laid in a layup and Sullivan’s Head Coach Jordan Flora took a timeout with a little less than three and a half minutes left. McClain landed another layup once the action resumed. Steelville’s Pennock added a three point basket and  was followed by a free throw by Pryor. Abby Peterson tallied two free throws and grabbed a rebound and scored on a fast break to the basket. Steelville’s Regan Martin rocked in a layup and Raegan Johnson jammed a layup with under a minute left, 17-10.

In the second quarter, Steelville outscored Sullivan by two points and held the lead. Olivia Witt was found wide open and netted a perfect three point basket. Peterson then grabbed a rebound and found Witt wide open again for a three. Steelville’s Kreitner got a traveling foul called on her and Steelville’s  Head Coach Zach Kennedy called a timeout. They scored a three pointer when action resumed and Pennock tallied two free throws. McClain landed a free throw and Pennock added another layup. Steelville found Pryor open the basket and Sullivan trailed, 26-17.

In the third quarter, the Lady Eagles outscored Steelville by five points, but the Lady Cardinals held the lead. McClain scored two free throws and Delaney George added a free throw after she netted a layup. Steelville’s Pennock sailed a wide open three basket in and McClain added a layup. Peterson danced past defenders and added a layup with under ten seconds left, 30-26.

In the final quarter, both teams added fifteen points. McClain was under the hoop wide open for a layup. Sullivan began to come alive when Witt netted a three pointer and Sullivan was down by one. Steelville’s Kreitner answered back with a three point basket. McClain made a free throw and was followed by Steelville’s Pennock with two free throws. Peterson laid in a layup and added a free throw after Pennock notched in another three pointer. Coach Flora took a timeout with under a minute left, McClain claimed another layup. Coach Flora took another timeout with twenty six seconds left. McClain scored the last layup for Sullivan and Steelville’s Kreitner scored a free throw to finish the game.
