Sullivan Finishes Fourth At Back To School Classic

The Sullivan Lady Eagles finished fourth at the Peoples Bank Back To School Softball Classic. Sullivan won all their pool games but came up short in the championship bracket. This was the second year in a row Sullivan finished fourth. The Back To School Tournament is always a good way for the Lady Eagles to get a feel for their roster and learn how to adapt the rest of the season with the variety of teams.

Helias

Evvie Blankenship got the start for the Lady Eagles on the mound again. She only gave up two runs off three hits. Blankenship recorded one strike out.

The Lady Crusaders took the early lead when they scored in the first inning and extended their lead at the bottom of the third as well. Sullivan tried to bridge the gap at the top of the fifth inning but came up short. Helias defeated Sullivan, 2-1.

Hannah Campbell was struck by a pitch and Grace Halmick singled on a bunt that advanced Campbell. Molly Lohden hit a sacrifice bunt that advanced the two runners. She was then scored on the next play after Kayla Ulrich hit into a fielder’s choice.

Eureka

Molly Lohden got the start for the Lady Eagles and she gave up a walk during the first at bat. The batter after hit a ground ball into a fielder’s choice and the runner advanced. After a single, the Lady Wildcats drew first blood. Eureka scored again and Head Coach Ashley Crump decided to make a pitching change and brought in Evvie Blankenship.

Sullivan tried to bounce back at their next at bat. Lohden was hit by the pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. She was scored when Ulrich hit a hard ground ball and reached on an error.

The Lady Wildcats scored another run at their next at bat and Sullivan tried to come back at the bottom of the third. Lohden was hit by another pitch and Ulrich singled on a ground ball hit to left field which advanced Lohden. Alexis Funkhouser landed on first after a hard ground ball was hit to left field. Lohden scored and Ulrich advanced. Sullivan came up short against Eureka, 3-2.

The Lady Eagles will continue their season on Thursday on the road against Windsor.
