Sullivan Falls To Union In Second Round

The Eagles soared in their first round game of the 2023 Four Rivers Conference baseball tournament. Sullivan defeated Hermann, 10-4. The Eagles weren’t as lucky in their next game that following Monday. Sullivan’s pitching gave up 11 hits and 13 runs in the loss to Union. The Wildcats defeated Sullivan by ten, 13-3.

In the first inning, Sullivan jumped on the scoreboard first. Cambrian Koch was the first batter of the day and was walked by Union’s pitcher. Koch was scored when Gavin Schmidt hit a line drive double to left. The Eagles were on the board first, but Union answered back at the bottom of the second with four runs. Union secured six more runs in the bottom of the third and another one in the bottom of the fourth.

In the fifth inning, the Eagles tallied two more runs, but so did Union. Seth Valley hit a ground ball single and Koch was walked against after an out. Nolan Ulrich reached on an error by the third baseman and the bases were loaded. Schmidt was the savior once again when he scored Valley on a ground out to the shortstop. Dayron Skaggs then slammed a line drive double to left and scored Koch. Ulrich was held up at third by the throw.

Despite the loss, the Eagles had a great day at the plate with five hits. Valley was a perfect 1-1 and Skaggs finished 2-3.

Skaggs, Parsons and Lane Blankenship were the three pitchers for Sullivan. Parsons gave up four runs, two hits and three earned runs. He was the losing pitcher. Blankenship pitched two innings and gave up nine runs off eight hits. He also surrendered nine earned runs. Skaggs recorded the only strikeout.
