Sullivan Falls In Second Half

The Sullivan Lady Eagles held strong in the first half on Monday’s basketball game. The Washington Lady Blue Jays came alive after Sullivan’s big first half. Dakayla McClain, Kylee McReynolds, and Abby Peterson cashed in some big plays against Washington, but Sullivan fell short. Washington’s Gabby Linderman and Elizabeth Reed had big nights at Sullivan’s expense. Sullivan outscored Washington in the first quarters, but the Lady Jays eventually surged past Sullivan. The Lady Eagles were defeated by Washington, 39-34.

In the first quarter, Sullivan had control of the game. Peterson broke away on a fast break and Sullivan drew first blood. Washington’s Cierra Murrell tied up the game. Washington left McReynolds completely open at the top of the key and she netted an easy three. Peterson sailed in a three from the same spot and Washington took the first time out of the game. At a little under three minutes left, McReynolds missed a three, but the loose ball was scooped up by McClain who landed a layup. Washington’s Reed netted her first two points of the game. Murrell added three more points to end the quarter. Sullivan led, 10-7.

In the second quarter, the Lady Eagles held the lead by two. Washington’s Olivia Reed netted two free throws. Peterson answered back with a layup and then drained a big three. Elizabeth Reed answered back with a three of her own. Sullivan’s Head Coach Jordan Flora called his first time out of the game with a little over four minutes left. McReynolds added a free throw, but missed her second shot. Peterson rallied the rebound and added another layup for Sullivan. Elizabeth Reed dropped in a layup and McClain answered back. Washington’s Kendall Nix tied up the game, but Peterson powered through with a layup. Washington was down by two, 22-20.

In the third quarter, the Lady Jays claimed the lead. Linderman tied the game and took the lead for Washington. Molly Lohden landed a free throw and missed her second one. Linderman released on Sullivan’s and added two layups back to back. Coach Flora took another timeout with a little less than six minutes left. McReynolds netted a three point basket and landed a layup right after to give Sullivan the lead back. Washington’s Murrell took back the lead with a three of her own and Washington took another timeout. Sullivan was down by one, 30-29.

In the fourth quarter, Washington sealed the win. Lohden took back the lead for Sullivan when she netted a three pointer from the top of the key. Murrell tied the game back up and Elizabeth Reed took the lead with a little over three minutes left. Olivia Reed powered through Sullivan’s defenders and landed a layup. Coach Flora took another timeout with a little over two minutes left. Washington had the lead by three and took a timeout with less then a minute left. Elizabeth Reed netted a free throw, then swatted the ball away when Peterson went up for a layup. Peterson scored the last two points for Sullivan from the free throw line. Elizabeth Reed scored the last two free throws of the game.
