Sullivan Falls To Blair Oaks In Semifinals

Sullivan fell 9-2 to the defending state champion Blair Oaks in district semifinals on Thursday.

The loss snapped Sullivan’s streak of 14 consecutive district championships, which started in 2008.

Blair Oaks fell the next night to No. 1 seed Fatima.

It was one of the toughest districts that Sullivan has ever had. Fatima, Blair Oaks and Sullivan

were all ranked in the top 6 among Class 3 teams.

The game started on a positive note with Sullivan scoring the first two runs of the game.

The first two batters of the game were walked. After a strikeout, Molly Lohden bunted a ball in play and Sullivan drew first blood. After another walk, Sullivan scored another run on a wild pitch.

The Lady Falcons took control of the game at the next at bat. Taylor Groner hit a home run and brought in herself and the baserunner. Blair Oaks defense held Sullivan from scoring and they broke the tie when Bria Boessen blasted another home run. Groner launched another home run at the bottom of the third and the score was 5-2.

Kenadi Braun of Blair Oaks blasted another home run to start the bottom of the fifth and brought the score to 7-2. Chesney Luebbering launched another home run during the same half inning and they finished off Sullivan, 9-2.

Evvie Blankenship was the pitcher for Sullivan and pitched all six innings. She gave up nine runs on eleven hits. She struck out three. Kayla Ulrich was the top hitter for Sullivan and went 2-2 at the plate.
