Sullivan Baseball Falls In Two Games This Week

The Sullivan Eagles baseball team came up short this week. The Eagles started the week on the road against Hermann on Monday and returned to Sullivan Bank Ballpark on Thursday to face Union. This was the second game that Sullivan faced Union at home and they lost both games. Sullivan came up short against Hermann, 8-4. The Eagles were defeated by the Wildcats again, 10-3.

Hermann

The Bearcats took the lead early in the first inning and Sullivan just couldn’t recover. Hermann scored seven unanswered runs, before Sullivan even got on the board. The Eagles fell in Hermann, 8-4.

In the fourth inning, Sullivan got on the scoreboard for the first time. The Bearcats had already scored seven runs before Sullivan scored their first two runs. Cambrian Koch was walked and then scored when Gavin Schmidt blasted a fly ball double to right. After an out, Dayton Skaggs walked. Skaggs was scored when Lucas Parsons hit a ground ball double.

In the fifth inning, the Eagles scored their last two runs of the game. Kaleb Keen singled on a line drive to right and Seth Valley was walked afterwards. Valley was out advancing to second when Koch singled on a fly ball to right. The runner was scored on an error made by Hermann’s catcher.

Parsons gave up six runs on the mound and four hits. Lane Blankenship pitched in relief and recorded the most strikeouts with three. Parsons tallied two strikeouts.

Schmidt performed the best at the plate and went 2-4.

Union

The Wildcats collapsed Sullivan for the second time this season. Last month when Union came to Sullivan, they defeated the Eagles by ten runs, 13-3. The Eagles faced Union again at home on Thursday and this time fell by seven, 10-3.

In the second inning, Sullivan jumped on the scoreboard first. After an out, Koch walked. Dake Gawer landed on a ground ball single. Koch advanced to third on a dropped ball and Alex Toews came in for Gawer and advanced as well. Blankenship singled on a fly ball to center and scored both runners.

In the sixth inning, the Eagles scored their last run. Union scored seven runs before Sullivan tallied one more. Schmidt walked before he was out advancing to second. Chase Blue reached first on an error. Parsons singled on a line drive to right that advanced Blue. Skaggs singled on a ground ball to left to load the bases. Blue scored when Koch walked a runner in. The Wildcats finished off Sullivan when they scored three more runs at their last at bat.

The Eagles pitchers gave up ten hits and ten runs and only tallied five strikeouts.
