Soccer Falls In Two Games This Week

The Sullivan Eagles soccer team lost in two heartbreaking games this week. The boys traveled to Fatima on Tuesday and played on Thursday at home against the Union Wildcats. The Fatima Comets shutout the Eagles, 5-0. Sullivan was barely defeated by the Union Wildcats, 2-1.

The Eagles traveled to Westphalia to play the Fatima Comets. Sullivan fell to Fatima, 5-0.

The Comets scored one goal in the first half and secured the win with four goals in the second half.

Kaden Smith was the goalkeeper for Sullivan and played all 80 minutes. He gave up five goals but saved the ball eleven times from seeing the net.

Zechariah Beagle shot the ball twice. Trevor Alexander shot the ball once.

Union

Union came to play but was not prepared for the Sullivan defense. Nobody scored in the first half, but Union secured the win late in the game. Sullivan was defeated by Union, 2-1.

In the first half, the Wildcats shot the ball to the right of the goal within the first three minutes of the game. Smith saved the ball from seeing the net again three minutes later. Eli Peregoy and Aidan Lawrence played great defense to keep the ball away from the net. Smith saved the ball from the net and Union had an unsuccessful corner kick with a little over 27 minutes left. Smith saved the ball twice more before Union launched the ball to the right of the goal with a little over 21 minutes left in the first. Smith dove to stop the ball from seeing the net with a little over ten minutes left. An electric moment in the first half was when Union’s Owen Gildehaus made a fast break to the goal. He bobbed and weaved his way down forty yards before Smith stopped him from making a goal. Union missed another corner kick opportunity and Smith saved another goal. Sullivan’s defense really shined in the first half. Union was fast and really put the pressure on Sullivan, but the Eagles stayed strong and held the line.

In the second half, all the goals were made. Smith and Cambrian Koch stopped the ball within the first five minutes of the second half. Union’s Will Herbst made a fast break to the net but shot the ball to the right. The first goal of the game was made when Union threw the ball in from the side. Smith didn’t let that get him down as he saved the ball two more times from the net twice within six minutes of each other. Union’s Ethan Sulschi made a fast break run to the net, but Wyatt Kraus swooped in to stop him from making a goal. Union missed another corner kick opportunity, which gave Sullivan the needed motivation to step up. Beagle made an incredible fast break run from one end of the field to the other to make a spectacular goal. The Eagles tied up the game at one with a little over twelve and a half minutes left in the game. Union tried to add another goal but was stopped three more times within the next five minutes. The Wildcats missed two more corner kicks but secured the win with a last minute goal. Union scored their final goal with a little over four minutes left. The final score was 2-1.

Beagle was the lone Eagle to score. He also had one other shot on the day and two points. Smith played all 80 minutes as the Sullivan goalie. He only gave up two goals but saved the ball twelve times from seeing the net.
