SHS Lady Eagles Win Conference Championship

The Lady Eagles softball team on Thursday completed an undefeated run in the Four Rivers Conference.

Sullivan kept racking in the accolades with another flawless performance, winning 20-1 against St. James.

Sullivan went 7-0 in FRC play and improved to 10-8 overall. Kayla Ulrich and Jaedin Blankenship each rocked a home run in the third inning to secure the win.

Evvie Blankenship got the start on the mound for Sullivan and pitched the only three innings of the game.

She gave up one run on one hit and recorded a staggering seven strikeouts.

In the top of the first, the Lady Tigers struggled from the first batter and Sullivan capitalized. The first three batters were walked and Alexis Funkhouser hit a hard ground ball double and Sullivan was on the board, 2-0.

Just four pitches later, Dorie Richardson rained down a long line drive triple to center field to score the remaining runners. Molly Lohden hit a successful sacrifice fly that scored the runner. St. James scored their only run at the bottom of the first.

In the top of the second, Sullivan extended their lead. Hannah Campbell landed on first after an error. The top of the lineup was at bat again and Ulrich slammed a home run past left field. After a strikeout looking, Jaedin Blankenship landed on first on an error. She advanced to second on an another error. After another out, Richardson delivered on a fly ball double to left. Blankenship scored. Sullivan’s defense shined as St. James couldn’t score again.

In the top of the third, the game was called because of Sullivan extending their lead past 15. The Lady Eagles drove home 12 runs to secure the win.

Venable hit a line drive single to center. After an out, Kayla Ulrich reached ona walk. Sullivan started a famous two out rally when Jaedin Blankenship hit a hard ground ball single to load up the bases.

Funkhouser jacked a fly ball to left field to double and Venable and Ulrich scored. Richardson delivered a big double that cleared the bases.

Carli McCreary was struck by a pitch and Evvie Blankenship walked to load the bases. Venable walked and another run came home.

Campbell hit a hard ground ball and reached on an error. The speed of Sullivan cleared the bases on the same error.  Ulrich launched a huge home run to center field and scored Campbell. Morgan Braun kept the scores alive and drew a walk.

Jaedin Blankenship closed out the game when she rocketed a home run to left field and Sullivan won 20-1.

Sullivan swung for 11 hits on the day. Venable and Ulrich each went 2-2.

Richardson finished 3-3 and Jaedin Blankenship finished 2-3.

The Lady Eagles will travel to Rolla on Monday.
