St. James

Three innings were all it took for the Lady Eagles to get their second 15-0 win of the week with an explosive performance against St. James.

It was also Senior Night at the Bank of Sullivan ballpark. A heartwarming send-off was celebrated for the four seniors: first baseman Morgan Braun, utility player Hayli Venable and managers Jordan Peltonen and Gavin Schmidt.

The winning pitcher, Evvie Blankenship struck out five batters and only allowed one hit. She also collected the most hits on the team with three at-bats.

Madison Ortner scored three runs, while Molly Lohden, Dorie Richardson, Hayli Venable, Evelynn Harris and Braun each scored two. Rae Corwin, Mckynlee Peterson and Ava Declue each collected one run.

Sullivan triumphed over the Lady Tigers with a six-run shutout in the bottom of the first inning. Lohden drew first blood by stealing third base and then making home. Richardson added the second run on a passed ball at both third and home plate. Ortner followed shortly after and Venable ran from first to home on an error. Peterson would make the final run off Declue’s grounder.

After Blankenship’s swift three strikeouts, the Lady Eagles returned to the plate in the bottom of the second, adding two more runs with Ortner and Braun both scoring on the same error.

The final blow came in the next inning as Sullivan scored seven runs to secure the 15-0 victory. Both Harris and Lohden crossed home plate on the same error. Declue and Richardson scored on Blankenship’s triple line drive, with Ortner grabbing her third run a few plays later.

To put the final nail in the coffin, Peterson drove in Venable and Braun on a double, bringing Sullivan’s total to 15 runs.
