Shetley, Rice Remain Standing After Day 2 Of State Wrestling
Ty Shetley and Jordan Rice remained standing after Day 2 of the Class 2 state wrestling meet.
Both wrestlers reached today’s final rounds and both have clinched all-state honors.
Shetley (160) lost by a 3-1 decision in the quarterfinals against Lafayette’s Jay Greiner but he kept his season alive with two victories in wrestlebacks.
He pinned Logan-Rogersville’s Griffin Swearengin at 1:52, then pulled out a 1-0 decision over Kirksville’s Dominic Cahalan.
Shetley can finish no worse than sixth.
Rice (195) won his quarterfinal match against Fulton’s JaDontae Ray by a 5-3 decision, but lost by fall to Oak Grove’s undefeated Zander Bringegar at 3:52.
Sullivan’s other four wrestlers who made it to Day 2 came up short in their bids.
Eli Peregoy (126) lost by fall to Levi Perry of St. Charles.
Dominic Ransom (132) lost to Mexico’s Grant VanHorn by a 3-0 decision in the quarterfinals. He kept his season going with a victory over St. Charles’ David Thorne, but lost by major decision to Cassville’s Akhilleus Arguelles.
Ethan Hurt (145) fell in his quarterfinal bout by technical to Pleasant Hill’s Garrett Lyons, then took a fall to Southern Boone’s Hunter Jennings.
Colton Brendel (152) won by sudden victory over Ste. Genevieve’s Levi Wiegan in the second round of wrestlebacks. His season ended with a loss to Blair Oaks’ Zach Rackers in the next round.
