Sakora Lockhart Takes Home Gold Medal At The National Women’s USA Championship

By Wyatt Hardy

Boxer Sakora Lockhart from St. Clair took home a gold medal at the National Women’s USA Championship in Toledo, Ohio. At only sixteen years old, she was crowned the winner of the youth female 132-pound weight class. This tournament was hosted at the Glass City Center from July 26-29 and had bouts between the greatest female boxers in America.

Lockhart was a beast in the ring and stood strong against her competitors at the championship. In her last match on Thursday, she won by a walkover when her opponent was unable to fight. This came after winning two unanimous decisions in her previous matches.

Her gold medal comes over a year later after stepping into the ring. Lockhart holds a 9-4 record after participating in several national and St. Louis area tournaments. She is  nationally ranked 8th in her division.

She struggles to find local opponents who are willing to give a shot against her. That is why Lockhart competes in higher-level tournaments,

Many of the fighters she faces are older, heavier and nationally ranked. But, none of these factors make a difference for her as she will still tear them up.

Her father, Tommy Lockhart has supported her from the very start and pushed her to her greatest potential. She is currently being trained by Bobby Kendrick at the Route 66 Boxing Club. Lockhart trains about six times a week and her schedule stays extremely busy with about a fight each month.

She has won silver at the 2023 USA Boxing National Junior Olympics in June and gold in 2022. Lockhart has also participated in the National Silver Gloves Tournament, Golden Gloves Tournament, The Corky Saul Memorial and many other tough competitions.

Lockhart has emerged as one of the top talents and a face of the boxing community in this area. Because of her growing reputation, she currently has a documentary in production about her and is gaining notoriety on a national level. With a promising future ahead, she will continue climbing up the ranks as one of the most feared boxers in the ring.

Be sure to stay tuned for an interview with Lockhart in next week’s edition.
