Richardson, Daily Clinch Podium At Owensville

The girls wrestling team returned to Owensville for the first time since 2021 and achieved strong finishes in their second tournament this year with 10 fighters.

Out of the 11 teams that competed at the invitational, Sullivan finished 9th with 55 points. Rolla topped the podium with 146 points, Owensville (119) came in 2nd, Fulton and Wright City both ranked 3rd with 102.5 points each, De Soto (93) placed 5th, Capital City and Oakville tied for 6th with 81 points, West Plains (60.5) secured 8th place, Affton (42) finished 10th and Hillsboro rounded out the list with 33.5 points.

Junior Dorie Richardson (5-0) clinched the top spot for the 145 weight class, scoring a team-high 19 points for Sullivan. Her victory in this class followed her previous 1st place finish at Wright City the week before. Richardson aimed to reclaim the top spot in Owensville for the second time after doing so in 2021. She began her afternoon with a 1:04 pin-down over Ava Strickland of Oakville, then won by decision over Rolla’s Serenity Tilford in the next round and emerged victorious after a 3:53 battle over Atlas Anderson of Capital City. For her closing two rounds, she won by fall over her own teammate Katie Summers and secured another win by decision over Tilford.

Junior Ruby Daily (3-1) achieved an impressive 2nd place finish in the 190 class, earning 15 points for her team. In 2021, when she last wrestled in Owensville, she missed the podium with a 4th place finish, but this time she earned a place on the stage and medaled. She defeated her opponents in the first three rounds, winning by fall over Rolla’s Felicity Taylor, Fulton’s Nitri Lopez and Owensville’s Madison Lewis. Daily came close to winning her last match but ultimately fell short to Zoey Foster of West Plains despite giving her all on the mat.
