Potosi Prevailed In First Round

The Sullivan Eagles fell in the first round of the Ninth Annual FCNB Bank-It Championship. This was the first game of the 2022/2023 boys basketball season on Monday. The Trojans took control of the game quickly when they outscored Sullivan 14-5 in the first quarter. Sullivan forced 28 turnovers and Chris Glaser forced the most with six. The Eagles were defeated by Potosi, 53-19.

In the first quarter, Zane West of Potosi scored the first three points of the game. Aiden Kirk followed with a layup. Potosi took the lead by four when Gabe Brawley scored on a fast break to the hoop. Head Coach Dino McKinney took a timeout when a little over two and half minutes remained. Kirk landed another three point basket, but Sullivan was down, 14-5.

In the second quarter, Potosi added to their lead, while Sullivan added fifteen points. Glaser sank a three point basket and Matthew Mallory nabbed two points. Kirk scored another layup and Drake Gawer glided a three pointer in the hoop under a minute left in the half. The Trojans took a timeout with two seconds left and scored a three pointer at the buzzer. Potosi led at the end of the first half, 28-16.

The Trojans held the Eagles from scoring in the third quarter and Peyton Malady netted a three point basket in the fourth quarter. The final score was 53-19.

Kirk scored the most points with seven. Gawer, Glaser, Malady, and Mallory each had three points. Kirk forced five turnovers. Cambrian Koch, Malady, Gawer, and Max Avery each had four turnovers. Mallory also had a turnover.
