Potosi Outlasts Eagles

It was a high scoring game on Tuesday at Sullivan Bank Ballpark. Both teams scored plenty of runs, but it was the Trojans who got the victory. Potosi secured the win when they got six runs in the fifth inning. Sullivan sent three runs home in their last at bat, but it wasn’t enough. The Eagles fell to Potosi, 13-7.

In the second inning, Sullivan tied up the game at two. After an out, Jordan Rice landed on an error. Grant Halmick came in as the courtesy runner for Rice and Alex Toews hit a ground ball and reached on an error. Halmick was out advancing to third. Cambrian Koch singled on a fly ball to center and Toews advanced. Koch stole second before Seth Valley hit a hard ground ball and reached on an error. Toews and Koch both scored to tie the game.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Eagles added two more runs. Potosi took a big lead in the fourth and fifth innings when they scored eight runs. Sullivan was down 10-2 before they added two more runs. Dayton Skaggs singled on a ground ball to left. Chase Blue was hit by the pitch and Lucas Parsons singled on a ground ball to load the bases. Skaggs and Blue were both scored when Lane Blankenship hit a ground ball single.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Sullivan had their last rally. The Trojans tallied three more runs before Sullivan answered back. Koch walked and stole second right away. Halmick was walked and Koch scored on a throw. Halmick advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly. Gavin Schmidt scored on a passed ball to finish the game.

Parsons was the starting pitcher and tallied six strikeouts. He gave up five runs and three earned runs. Koch was the losing pitcher and had one strikeout. He gave up four runs and four earned runs. Nate McReynolds also saw some time on the mound and had one strikeout.

Skaggs was the brute at the plate and went 2-4.
