Pinemark 12U Slides Past Bourbon 16-15
Pinemark survived a back-and-forth slugfest against Bourbon on Monday, July 1. Both 12U teams made their fair amount of punches home, but Pinemark knocked out the Warharks’ seven-run rally to win the season finale 16-15.
Pinemark went undefeated in their three clashes with Bourbon this year. They first beat the Warhawks 9-5 on May 6 and then 9-7 on June 27.
Pinemark hit the ground running in their third meetup with four scores in the top of the first inning. Parker Y.’s RBI allowed Eli M. to mark the game’s first, and then Parker Y. and Austin D. followed up with their runs. Ryland S. stole home to cap off their opening drive.
They continued firing on all cylinders when they returned to bat. Parker Y. knocked in another RBI, and Kenton G. punched in Pinemark’s fifth unanswered score.
Despite the Warhawks being on the ropes, they began hitting back during the next inning and rose to an 8-5 lead. Matthew J. launched a grounder to bring Connor R. home and break the drought. Blake L. stole their second score, and Matthew J. capitalized on an error to seize their third. Bourbon continued brewing a storm as Corrin F., Braden K., Kolten D., Connor R. and Blake L. all crossed the dish.
Pinemark was also unwilling to back down and managed to tie it 8-8 at the top of the 3rd. After Ryland S. stole 2nd and 3rd base, he cashed in on an error to seize home. Blake W. and Kody B. then responded with runs to even out the scoreboard.
Pinemark doubled their total to 16 runs on their next drive. Parker Y., Austin D., Ryland S., Blake W., Kody B., HJ, Nolan W. and Eli M. notched a score during the inning.
Trailing by eight scores, the Warhawks refused to go out quietly in their final at-bat of the season. Facing the music, Bourbon players Connor R., Corrin F., Dallas S., Kolten D. and Blake L. answered the call with runs across the plate. But Pinemark pitcher Parker Y. came to the rescue, shutting the door on Bourbon with the final strikeout, leaving them a score shy of the victory.
