McReynolds Leads 3-1 Win Over Bulldogs

Sullivan’s (10-5) defense got the final bite over their district rival, St. Clair (3-9), in a 3-1 win on Monday, Apr. 15.

Nate McReynolds pitched a complete game for the Eagles. He had a big day with six strikeouts on the mound and did not give up any earned runs. McReynolds only surrendered three hits and two walks. Head coach Ian Whitson awarded him the Most Valuable Player belt after the game.

Chase Blue balled out with a team-high two runs and drew a walk. He got Sullivan off to an early one-run lead in the top of the 1st. Blue began his drive by hammering a fly ball to left field and reaching 1st base on an error. As the Eagles had two outs on the board, Blue took risks by stealing 2nd and 3rd. Then, as Landen Doza flew out on his hit, Bulldog pitcher Clayton Ingram committed a balk that allowed Blue to take home.

St. Clair’s Tyler Tomes scored in the bottom of the 2nd to tie it 1-1.

Then, once the Eagles stepped back onto the plate, they broke away for two more runs. After Gavin Schmidt fired off a grounder for a single, he stole 2nd and 3rd. Then Blue sneaked up to 2nd, and Mitchell Garner’s line drive drove Schmidt home. The Bulldogs made an error, which paved the way for Blue to seize a 3-1 lead.

Garner garnered an RBI, a hit and a walk against St. Clair.

Gavin Schmidt drew up a run and a hit.

Nolan Ulrich pulled off a hit and a walk.

Seth Valley recorded a hit.

The Eagles chalked up four hits, three walks and an RBI with 27 at-bat appearances.
