Lady Eagles Wrap Up Regular Season In Rolla
Softball (16-15) finished its regular season at the FCNB Rolla Invitational with 2 wins and 3 losses.
The first day proved challenging for the Lady Eagles as they suffered three defeats to Father Tolton, Neelyville and Willard. Sullivan’s performance improved on the second day when they beat Warrensburg and Wright City.
They will play Normandy Collaborative in the Class 3 District 2 quarterfinal at home on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.
Father Tolton
Father Tolton Regional Catholic emerged victorious over the Lady Eagles with a 3-1 score.
Hayli Venable made Sullivan’s only run, which was driven in by Morgan Braun.
Pitcher Ava Declue recorded 2 strikeouts but surrendered 3 hits and 2 runs.
Evvie Blankenship took over for relief in the bottom of the 4th.
Neelyville
Sullivan fell 9-3 to Neelyville, scoring all of their runs in the bottom of the 1st.
Pitcher Mia Pridemore took the loss for the Lady Eagles, giving up 5 earned runs and 10 hits, but making 3 strikeouts in five innings.
Blankenship filled in for relief and picked up a strikeout.
With four at bats, Molly Lohden led the team with two hits and also collected one run.
Declue then followed her afterwards with a score on Rae Corwin’s ground ball and Venable made it home on Braun’s single.
Willard
Sullivan faced a 6-0 loss to Willard for their last game on Friday.
Pitcher Declue went four innings, giving up 7 hits and 5 earned runs, as well as delivering a strikeout.
Corwin, who filled in for relief in the final inning, surrendered 2 hits and a run, while also forcing a strikeout.
Warrensburg
To kick off Saturday, the Lady Eagles dominated Warrensburg, winning 7-0.
Pitcher Evvie Blankenship recorded 4 strikeouts and had given up no runs.
Lohden made three hits with three at bats and picked up two runs.
Declue collected two runs with a single.
Dorie Richardson also ran home and made two singles.
Venable reached first on an error and drove in two runs with a ground ball.
Carli McCreary hit two ground balls, one of which brought in a run.
Ortner crossed home plate on a wild pitch.
Wright City
In a closely contested match, the Lady Eagles narrowly defeated Wright City 6-5 with a walk-off victory by Venable in the bottom of the 8th inning.
Venable ran in the game-winner off of McCreary’s sacrifice fly.
Starting pitcher Pridemore recorded a strikeout in the 3 innings she played, giving up a hit and 2 runs.
Relief pitcher Declue forced 3 strikeouts.
Declue drove in a run with a single.
Richardson brought in a run with a double and Venable grounded into a fielder’s choice for an RBI.
Peterson scored on an error, tying the game between Sullivan and Wright City at 3-3.
Blankenship’s single drove in an RBI.
