Lady Eagles Win Rolla Tournament

Sullivan softball had another big weekend. Sullivan only had one loss across the whole time. They secured 33 runs during the tournament to win the championship. Sullivan fell in their first game to Timberland, 4-3. Sullivan then defeated their next four opponents at the tournament. They defeated Webster Groves, 7-1. Sullivan surged past Neosho, 9-2. They shut out Farmington, 4-0. The Lady Eagles won the tournament championship against Willard, 9-3.

Timberland

Sullivan had a last minute rally against Timberland, but fell short by one run. The Lady Eagles out hit the Lady Wolves by one, but suffered the loss. This was their only loss of the tournament, 4-3.

The Lady Wolves jumped on the board first, but at the top of second, Sullivan snapped back. Hannah Campbell singled on a hard hit ground ball. After an out, Campbell scored when Molly Lohden hit a fly ball to center field.

Timberland scored another run to break the tie, but Sullivan answered back at the top of the third. Kayla Ulrich landed a fly ball double to left. After an out, she was scored when Evvie Blankenship hit a fly ball to center and reached on an error.

The Lady Wolves added two more runs at the bottom of the inning, and Sullivan tallied another run at the top of the fifth. Lohden hit a fly ball to left and landed with a double. Ulrich hit a successful sacrifice fly to center and Lohden scored.

Webster Groves

The Lady Eagles’ offense scored all seven runs before Webster Groves jumped on the board. Sullivan secured ten hits on the day.

At the top of the first, Morgan Braun was hit by the pitch after an out. Dorie Richardson singled on a ground ball. Braun was out by a fielder’s choice on the next play and Alexis Funkhouser was on first. Richardson and Funkhouser both advanced on a passed ball before Lohden delivered on a line drive double. She scored Richardson and Funkhouser.

At the top of the second, Hayli Venable was the first batter and hit a fly ball double. After two outs, she advanced on a passed ball. She scored after Ulrich singled on a hard ground ball.

At the top of the sixth, Sullivan secured two more runs. After an out, Campbell singled on a line drive to right. Venable then hit another double and Campbell advanced. Campbell came home when Evvie Blankenship hit a line drive single to center. Venable scored on a fly ball single by Grace Halmick.

In their next at bat, Sullivan secured the win. Funkhouser was hit by the pitch after an out. Lohden and Campbell were walked and the bases were loaded. Venable was then hit by the pitch and a run came home. Lohden then scored on a passed ball. Webster Groves scored one run at the bottom of the seventh and the final score was 7-1.

Neosho

Sullivan’s offense blasted them to another victory. The Lady Eagles scored six unanswered points before the Lady Wildcats tallied their two runs.

Ulrich was the first batter of the game and secured a double. After an out, she scored when Richardson hit a fly ball single.

Sullivan had a two out rally at the top of the second. Halmick was hit by a pitch after two outs. Ulrich singled on a fly ball to left and both runners scored when Braun popped a fly ball double.

At the top of the fifth, Sullivan tallied three runs. Braun hit a line drive single to start the inning. She was picked off by the catcher before Richardson walked. Funkhouser hit a line drive double to score Richardson. Lohden singled on a line drive to center and scored Funkhouser. Lohden then scored on a wild pitch to give Sullivan the lead, 6-0.

The Wildcats scored two runs and Sullivan added three more runs at the top of the sixth. After an out, Ulrich hit a line drive single. Richardson walked and the bases were loaded again. Lohden cleared the bases on a fly ball double and the final score was 9-2.

Farmington

Evvie Blankenship shut out the Lady Knights. She pitched the whole game and only gave up three hits. She tallied four strikeouts.

At the top of the second, Sullivan drew first blood when Venable vanquished a home run to center field.

At the top of the fourth, Sullivan added another run. Venable delivered again on a fly ball triple. She scored when Campbell hit a hard ground ball single to center. Sullivan was up, 2-0.

At the top of the fifth, Sullivan finished off the Lady Knights. Richardson and Funkhouser both walked before Lohden advanced both runners on a sacrifice bunt. Richardson scored on a passed ball before Venable walked. Funkhouser scored on a passed ball and the final score was 4-0.

Willard

The Lady Eagles won the tournament championship against Willard. Sullivan secured the victory when they scored six runs in one inning. The Lady Eagles scored nine runs off nine hits. Evvie Blankenship was on the mound and gave up eight hits. She had four strikeouts.

At the bottom of the first, Sullivan jumped on the board. Sullivan’s first batter, Ulrich hit a fly ball double. She scored when Lohden singled on a ground ball.

Willard scored a run at the next at bat, but Ullivan secured the win at the bottom of the fourth. Richardson landed on a fly ball double. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Lohden grounded out to second. Venable bunted and reached on an error. Evvie Blankenship hit a ground ball and reached on error. Campbell hit a line drive double and scored Venable. The next run was scored when Funkhouser hit a line drive single. Campbell scored after Halmick grounded into a fielder’s choice. Ulrich cleared the bases on a fly ball double. Sullivan was up, 7-1.

Sullivan added two more runs at the bottom of the fifth inning. Lohden singled on a line drive to left. Venable reached on an error. Lohden scored when Evvie Blankenship grounded into another fielder’s choice. Venable scored the final run when she stole home. Sullivan won the tournament championship game, 9-3.
