Lady Eagles Split Two Home Games

The Lady Eagles softball team had a big week last week. Sullivan started their week with two games at home. The Troy-Buchanan Lady Trojans defeated Sullivan, 6-3. Sullivan proceeded to shut out Owensville the very next night, 15-0.

Troy-Buchanan

The Lady Trojans came out on top late in the game on Monday at Sullivan Bank Ballpark. Troy drew first blood when they tallied three runs with the Lady Eagles tying the game during the same inning. The Lady Trojans scored an unanswered run in each of the last three innings to secure the win at 6-3.

The very first batter of the fourth inning smacked a fly ball double to left field. Troy’s next hit landed on a single and advanced the runner. Johns of Troy made a successful ground out that advanced the runners. The Lady Trojans jumped on the board when Hunolt hit a home run to right and the score was 3-0. Sullivan answered back at the next at bat that started when Morgan Braun was hit by the pitch. Alexis Funkhouser smacked a ball to center field and Troy’s Brown chased the ball down. It dropped, Brown reaching out to grab it, but the ball bounced off her glove and past the wall. The call on the field was a ground rule double and Braun advanced to third. After a fly out, Molly Lohden bunted her way to first base and then advanced to second on the throw to home to try to catch Braun. Braun beat the throw and a run was scored. Funkhouser stopped at third. Dorie Richardson ended up safe on first and Lohden was called out at third. Funkhouser ran across home to add another run. After Richardson stole second, Jaedin Blankenship hit a ground ball single and Richardson’s fast running led her to score from second to tie the game at three.

At the top of the fifth, the Lady Trojans broke the tie. It started after Troy’s Meyers hit a double and was scored after Williams hit a double. Troy secured the win after they scored unanswered in both the sixth and seventh inning.

Funkhouser was the highlight of the offense, batting 2-3. Evvie Blankenship was on the mound for the Lady Eagles all seven innings. She gave six runs off seven hits. She tallied five strikeouts on the day.

Owensville

Sullivan shined the next night at home. The Lady Eagles showed domination at Sullivan Bank Ballpark against the Owensville Dutchgirls on Tuesday. Sullivan shut out Owensville, 15-0.

The hit parade started at the top of the first and the game was over by the third since Owensville never answered back. Kayla Ulrich was the first Sullivan player at bat, and she was struck by the pitch. Braun reached first after Ulrich was out at second. She then advanced to second on a dropped ball. Funkhouser hit a ground ball single and Braun advanced. Funkhouser stole second and Braun was scored after Evvie Blankenship hit a line drive single. The next score came after Lohden hit a line drive single. Richardson walked and the bases were loaded. After a second out was recorded, the runs poured on after Hayli Venable hit a line drive single to center. Two more runs came home after Grace Halmick hit a hopper to the second baseman and then advanced to second on an error. Sullivan made the score 8-0 after Ulrich hit a long home run and scored Halmick. The ball went way out of the park and no one was catching it.

Sullivan tallied more runs at their next at bat. Evvie Blankenship reached first on an error after an out. Ava DeClue, courtesy runner for Blankenship, stole second. Lohden was walked before Richardson popped a line drive double to left. DeClue scored and Lohden advanced to third. The bases were loaded after Jaedin Blankenship walked After an out, two more runs were scored after Halmick singled on a fly ball to left. Another run was scored when Sullivan took advantage of a wild pitch.

The Lady Eagles secured the win when three more runs were scored and the game was called. Evvie Blankenship hit a double and DeClue came in as a courtesy runner. She advanced to third on a wild pitch. She scored on a dropped ball before Richardson was walked. The next run scored on an error after the bases were loaded, and the winning runs scored after Ulrich blasted a double on a fly ball to center field.
