Lady Eagles Split Two Games

Sullivan's softball played two games before competing in the Rolla Tournament over the weekend. The Lady Eagles shut out Borgia on Tuesday, 6-0. Sullivan fell to Eureka on the road on Thursday, 4-1.

Borgia

Evvie Blankenship delivered another stellar performance on the mound against the Lady Knights. She recorded four strikeouts and only gave up two hits. She pitched another shut out, 6-0.

The game was pitching defensive battle until the bottom of the sixth inning. After an out, Evvie Blankenship hit a ground ball and reached on an error. She then advanced to second on the same error. Evelynn Harris came in as a courtesy runner for Blankenship. Harris advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Dorie Richardson hit a line drive single. Alexis Funkhouser walked and Richardson advanced. The bases were loaded when Borgia intentionally walked Hayli Venable. Richardson scored when Molly Lohden bunt into a fielder's choice. Hannah Campbell hit a line drive double to center and scored Funkhouser and Venable. Lohden was scored when Grace Halmick hit a successful ground out. Campbell then scored on a wild pitch and Sullivan won, 6-0.

Eureka

The Lady Eagles traveled to Eureka on Thursday. Sullivan was the first to score and Eureka tied it up at the bottom of the third. Eureka sealed the win in the bottom of the seventh with a final score of 4-1.

The game started in perfect fashion when the first batter of the day, Morgan Braun, blasted a home run. Sadly, that was the only run scored by Sullivan in the game.

At the bottom of the third, the Lady Wildcats tied up the game. One batter reached on an error and scored when Eureka’s Bailey singled on a line drive to left.

The Lady Wildcats secured the win after Delmain doubled on a fly ball to right and Bailey was intentionally walked. Eureka’s Mazzola hit a home run and Sullivan fell, 4-1.

Evvie Blankenship pitched the whole game and only gave up four runs on eight hits. She struck out four batters.

Despite the loss, Sullivan notched six runs but gave up three errors.
