Lady Eagles Fall To Dutchgirls To End Regular Season

Sullivan High School hosted the 11th annual Lee McKinney Coaches Care Game on Tuesday.

The boys basketball varsity team and girls varsiry team were scheduled for play. Owensville traveled to Sullivan for a Four Rivers showdown.

Sullivan fell to Owensville, 73-34.

Owensville had a three-game winning streak entering into play and improved to 19-6.

The Lady Eagles fell to 9-14. It was their final game before Saturday’s district tournament.

The Dutchgirls took an early lead from the beginning when Owensville's Kyla Hendrix netted a 3-point. Dakayla McClain answered back with a layup. Owensville's Anna Finley returned with an inside shot off the glass and McClain netted another after.

Abby Peterson took the lead for Sullivan when she sank a layup and the team was fired up. Emma Daniels of Owensville stole the ball from Sullivan and scored on a fast break and Sullivan's head coach Jordan Flora decided to take a time out with 2:35 on the clock.

Peterson came back after the pause and took the lead back for Sullivan with her inside shot.

Finley sailed two free throws and so did Ali Daniels. The Dutchgirls added two more points and the score was 13-8 at the end of the first.

In the second quarter, Owensville added even more to their lead.

Keira Hendrix scored two points and Hayli Venable netted a colossal 3-point shot for Sullivan.

Owensville scored six more unanswered points before Peterson knocked down a free throw with a little over five minutes left in the first half.

Camryn Caldwell sank a 3-point shot and Peterson answered back with a free throw.

Caldwell sailed two more three pointers and Sullivan took a timeout with a little over two minutes left in the first half. Daniels netted a free throw and Peterson landed a layup. Daniels answered back with two free throws and DaPhane Polanowski finished the first half woth a shot from the free throw line.

Owensville led at the half, 34-16.

McClain came back to start the second half and landed a layup. Peterson blasted a big three pointer for Sullivan, but Owensville answered back with four unanswered baskets. Coach Flora took his first timeout of the second half with 4:44 on the clock. Peterson used the motivation and claimed another two points. The Dutchgirls netted another nine points unanswerd  and Peterson netted a free throw shot with under a minute left. Owensville answered back with a free throw and McClain sank an inside shot to end the third quarter. The Dutchgirls led Sullivan, 52-26.

The final quarter got started with a Delaney George free throw. Keira Hendrix added a free throw score for Owensville. McClain then scored an inside layup from a good pass to her open under the basket. Kylee McReynolds made a massive three point basket for Sullivan and Owensville answered back with a layup. Venable sank a two point basket for Sullivan and Finley answered with a layup. Keira Hendrix hauled in another three point basket for Owensville and another two points for Owensville. Coach Flora took a timeout and 3:34 was left on the clock. The Dutchgirls added four more points and the final score was 73-34.

Peterson led Sullivan in points with 14, followed by McClain with 10. Venable added five points and McReynolds made three. George and Polanowski each finished with a point.

McClain led the team in rebounds on defense. She also scored a steal. Venable got four rebounds and two assists. George claimed three rebounds and an assist. Peterson secured three rebounds. Polanowski pulled in three rebounds, one assist, and a steal. Alex Bylo recorded two rebounds and a steal. McReynolds landed two rebounds, five assists, and one steal. Reagan Johnson finished with one steal.
