Lady Eagles Erase Three Opponents This Week
The Sullivan Lady Eagles soccer team are in an early season groove. They’re cooking teams left and right and have been undefeated five games in a row. They shut out the last two teams they faced with Maria Schatzl being a veteran goalkeeper this season. Cambria Pohlman has been stellar and scored goals in all three games this week. The Lady Eagles played St. Clair and Festus at home. Sullivan finished the week on Thursday at Fatima. The ladies played three games in a row and won all three. Sullivan defeated St. Clair on Tuesday, 3-2. They surged past Festus on Wednesday, 4-0. The Lady Eagles then shut out Fatima on Thursday, 4-0.
St. Clair
The Lady Bulldogs stormed out of the gate motivated, but Sullivan stamped them out. St. Clair drew first blood then tied the game to end the first half. The Lady Eagles secured the win with a second half goal and held St. Clair from scoring again. Sullivan surged past St. Clair, 3-2.
In the first half, the Lady Bulldogs scored the first goal within the first ten minutes of the game. St. Clair’s Izzy Tiepelman missed a corner kick and St. Clair’s goalie Joey Jesionowski saved the ball from seeing the net with a little over twenty nine minutes left. St. Clair was fast and shooting aggressively, but Schatzl wasn’t phased. Pohlman scored a goal with a little over twenty five minutes left and Emily Willman helped with the assist. Karen Dietzler gave a good defensive block and Hayli Venable took the ball and ran it down the field on a fast break. Jada Adams scored the second goal when Jesionowski left the goal wide open. Jesionowski then saved the ball twice as Sullivan was shooting more aggressively. Tiepelman missed on a fast break to the goal and Sullivan almost scored on a corner kick by Pohlman. Tiepelman scored a goal at the buzzer to end the first half, tying the game at two.
In the second half, Sullivan kept up the momentum and aggressive play. The Lady Bulldogs missed another corner kick opportunity, but Jesionowski was picking up St. Clair where the shooting fell off. She saved the ball three more times and Venable almost scored twice. Molly Lohden shot the ball quickly, but Jesionowski fell on the ball to stop the ball. The Lady Eagles finished off St. Clair when Pohlman scored a penalty shot with a little over twenty minutes left. St. Clair’s Kennedy Travis came up short on a fast break to the goal thanks to Schatzl’s star save.
Adams scored the first half goal and Pohlman scored the other two. Pohlman also shot the ball three times and Adams did once. Willman picked up an assist and shot the ball once. Venable also picked up an assist.
Schatzl played all 80 minutes as the goalie and gave up the two goals. She saved the ball nine times from seeing the net.
Festus
Sullivan kept up the momentum on the very next day. The Lady Eagles shutout the Lady Tigers on Wednesday at home. Festus was on a winning streak of their own and Sullivan put that to an end. The Lady Eagles drew first blood in the first half and scored three more goals in the second half. Sullivan shutout Festus, 4-0.
Emma Brune shot the ball three times and tallied one goal. Pohlman shot the ball four times and scored once. Tessa Newman shot the ball once and scored a goal. Lohden shot the ball once and tallied the fourth goal, her first. Kara Schmidt also shot the ball.
Schatzl was the goalie for all eighty minutes and saved the ball four times.
Fatima
The Lady Eagles continued their stellar week on the road on Thursday. Sullivan stamped out Fatima on their turf with an early game goal and three goals in the second half. The Lady Eagles shutout the Lady Comets, 4-0.
Brune shot the ball four times, added an assist and scored a goal again. Pohlman did the same. Willman shot the ball twice and tallied a goal and an assist. Olivia Huitt shot the ball once and made a goal. Anna Brooks shot the ball twice.
Schatzl played all 80 minutes and saved the ball three times from the back of the net.
