Lady Eagles Chip Away At A Winning Record

The Lady Eagles have climbed to .500 for the first time this season. They opened the year with four losses yet have bounced back to a 6-6 record.

Sullivan started week six on the ropes against Union (8-6) on Tuesday, Apr. 22. They fell 3-0 at home to the Ladycats but rebounded in their following two games.

The Lady Eagles blanked Crocker (6-7) 4-0 on the road a day after, then returned home to trounce Osage (7-6) 3-1.

Goalie Kara Schmidt attributes Sullivan’s success to their “recent growth in teamwork.” She explained, “I feel like our team has grown throughout the years, and nobody could do it without each other and the captains and the coaches. ”

The Lady Eagles have since gone 4-1 in Schmidt’s five consecutive starts at the net. She described blocking shots as almost like an “adrenaline rush” for her. Schmidt shared, “I stand there for a while, and then all of a sudden, they all come up and come at me… So I just kind of jump in it and try to do my best to get on top of the ball. And try to create success for my team and not just for me.”

In the coming weeks, Schmidt and the Lady Eagles look to continue strengthening their team chemistry. They will compete in an Owensville tournament and travel to DeSoto before returning home.

Sullivan will hold their Senior Night on Thursday, May 8. The ceremony will take place before varsity plays Borgia (9-8) at 5 p.m.
