JV Lady Eagles Seal The Deal In OT Against Bulldogs; Boys Fall Short In Late Rally

At home, the JV girls’ basketball team seized a 36-33 overtime victory over St. Clair on Thursday, Feb. 1.

Sullivan head coach Bria Miller was proud of her team for staying resilient until the end. “That’s one thing about this team: they don’t give up, so they will keep fighting,” she stated.

The Lady Eagles entered halftime down 17-12. To keep them fighting, Miller reminded her team “to be confident [and] take care of the ball.” She explained, “Those were our main two focuses, and to avoid fouls. We had a few girls in foul trouble, so we wanted to keep them in, making sure we’re moving our feet on defense, containing them, mak[ing] a stop, and then get[ting] a score.”

Boys

The JV boys’ basketball team nearly came in clutch like the girls’ team that played before them but fell 31-26 to St. Clair on Thursday, Feb. 1.

In the final 4 minutes of regulation, the Eagles scored an incredible 17 points against the Bulldogs. They were down 20-9 and struggled to break through a St. Clair defense that had locked down the court the entire night.

Despite the seventeen-point comeback not being enough to reel in the victory, JV Eagles head coach Kevin Vickers is proud of his team for fighting until the end. He explained, “They don’t give up on us, just like we don’t give up on them. And I mean, that’s all you can ask for as a coach; even when you’re down, they keep fighting.” Vickers continued, saying, “It’s been a tough year, but you know, I see a lot of potential in every one of the kids that played tonight.”
