JV Eagles Soar To High Places In Eureka
The junior varsity Eagles soared to high placements at the Eureka Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Sullivan had two teams who took the mats. Their first squad finished fifth with 91.5 points, and the second group placed sixteenth with 12 points.
Group One
Four Eagles wrestlers ranked in the top four. Carsen Dudley (19-1) and Brayden Kisner (14-4) were the champions of their classes, Blake Watson (12-2) was the runner-up, and Cole Reed (5-13) placed fourth.
Dudley (126) swept his competition at the Eureka Tournament. He pinned Sian Mang (SLU High) in 1:27 and Lucius Wittenborn (Hillsboro) in 0:27, then dominated Evan Bill (Hillsboro 2) in a 16-0 technical fall. The junior was Sullivan’s leading scorer with 25.5 points.
Kisner (132) clinched the top of the podium with 22.5 points. He won a 17-1 technical fall over Amaud Brown (Eureka), an 8-0 major decision over Weston Phillips (Timberland) and an 11-9 ruling over Zaiden Barnett (Hillsboro).
Watson (138) took silver in his class with 19.5 points. He swiftly pinned Ahmmit Tyehimbe-Ford (Webster Groves 2) in 0:53, then beat Jack Estill (Timberland) in a 20-5 technical fall. The freshman’s only loss came at the end to Gavin Daugherty (Northwest).
Reed (215) seized two victories and eleven points in his fourth-place finish. He brought down Charles Simons (Eureka) in 1:24 and Kristofer Washington (St. Mary’s) in 1:39.
Xander Loyd (190) racked up five points for the Eagles with two wins. He locked up Lucas Kuhlenberg (Windsor) at 0:40 and Clark Wellen (SLU High) in a 13-3 major decision. The sophomore held a 10-4 record after the tournament.
Morgan (150) and Nolan (165) Studdard scored four in their victories. Morgan (3-8) took down Liam Taylor (Hillsboro 2) at 0:50, and Nolan (2-6) wrapped up Jaden Young (Webster Groves 2) at 0:45.
Dawson Bullock (144) gave it his all in his two bouts.
