Hayes And Toews Hit Career-Highs In Owensville

Sullivan’s varsity basketball teams were tested in Owensville on Tuesday, Feb. 25. On Coaches vs. Cancer night, they both struggled to catch up to a tough Four Rivers team.

The Lady Eagles (8-16) first fell 41-24 to the Dutchgirls, dropping their conference record to 1-6.

The boys (4-22) played afterward, losing 59-40 against Owensville (13-12) in their final game before districts. They ended the regular season with a 2-5 Four Rivers standing.

Varsity Girls

Ava Hayes kept the Lady Eagles alive at the rim. She was their leading scorer with eight points, setting a career-high total in varsity. The 5’9 sophomore also pulled down three boards.

Kynlee Peterson helped attack the glass for Sullivan. She collected a team-high six rebounds while knocking in two points.

Olivia Barton topped the Lady Eagles with two assists. She also racked up two points and a rebound. 

Cora Shetley snagged Sullivan’s most steals with two. She also hauled in four rebounds and dished out an assist. 

Molly Lohden loaded up 3 points, two rebounds and an assist.

Karlee Head tallied four points, a steal and a rebound.

Ella Kirk sank a shot from downtown and grabbed two rebounds.

Katie Miller logged two points and an assist. 

Lily Schmuke secured a steal and a rebound. 

Sydney Montee crashed the boards for two rebounds, while Avery Merkel had one. 

Sullivan swished 8-32 of their field goals, 7-20 two-pointers, 1-12 threes and 7-14 free throws. They tried to rally back with 23 rebounds, five assists and four steals but were set back by 20 turnovers and 12 fouls.

Varsity Boys

Jared Toews sank eleven points for his highest score total in a varsity game. He was off-the-charts, shooting 4-4 on field goals and 1-1 on free throws. The 5’7 freshman also collected a steal and a rebound.

Chris Glaser topped the Eagles with 17 points and three assists. The 6’1 senior also grabbed two steals and a rebound.

Robert York led on the boards with six rebounds. The 6’2 senior also swished five points into the net.

Raiden Redd racked up 3 points, two steals, an assist and a rebound.

Spencer Thomas tallied 2 points and an assist.

Seth Valley stacked up two steals, two rebounds and an assist.

Braxton Breen bagged three boards and a steal.

Landen Doza dropped a dime and made a rebound.

Cooper Donner hauled in a board while Peyton Malady drilled two points into the rim.

The Eagles went 15-36 from the field, 11-25 inside the arc, 4-11 from downtown and 6-12 from the charity stripe. They put up 16 rebounds, eight steals and seven assists while surrendering 20 turnovers and three fouls.
