Girls Wrestling Takes 3rd At Union Tournament

Girls wrestling dominated the Union Tournament on Friday, Dec. 8, finishing in 3rd place with 150 points out of 22 teams.

Studdard (8-1) finished in 2nd place, earning 22 points in the 135 class. She began with a 3:35 fall over Nadia Steinhoff and then a swift 1:27 takedown of Camryn Elliott. Studdard handed Jorgie Johnston her only loss of the season so far in a 9-7 decision. She nearly clinched 1st place, but the undefeated Addison Geiler edged her out in a 5-4 decision.

In the 140 class, Richardson (11-2) made 2nd place, accumulating 21 points. She won by fall over Merrick Blankenship in 3:01. Richardson secured major decision victories in her next two matches, but lost grip of 1st place by a tech fall.

Daily (8-4) clinched 2nd in the 170 class, collecting 24 points for her team. She swiftly defeated Olivia Hamman in just 50 seconds and also dominated the 2nd round. Although Daily couldn’t overcome Bailee Dar, she fiercely contested the match for 5 minutes before falling.

Schatzl (11-6) ranked 3rd in the 155 class, scoring a team-high of 25 points. She started with a victory in the Prelims, then instantly took down Bevin Pratt in just 40 seconds and overcame Alleigh Culley in the Quarterfinals. Schatzl suffered her only loss against the undefeated Maggie Ortmann but bounced back with two victories, including a rematch against Culley.

In the 235 weight class, Erfurth (4-1) secured 3rd place, collecting 20 points. She first pinned down Jazmine Ramsey, struggled against the undefeated Abby Chandler, but persevered to win a 5-2 decision over Allie Holliday. She won by fall over CJ Trevino to clinch the podium.
