Girls Soccer Tames Bulldogs Before Facing Roar Of Tigers
The varsity Lady Eagles (2-5) survived a close battle in week four but found themselves in an uphill one the day after. Sullivan won 3-2 in a conference clash with St. Clair (2-4), then lost 6-1 in a tough fight against Festus (8-0). They tackled both the Lady Bulldogs and Tigers on back-to-back days at home.
Sullivan 3, St. Clair 2
Kloe Greife drew first blood for Sullivan, blasting in the first varsity goal of her career against St. Clair.
Andi Giebler kicked off the second half with a score, pushing the Lady Eagles ahead 2-0. The sophomore found the back of the net just 38 seconds after halftime.
St. Clair responded with their first goal afterward, leading Ella Kirk to cushion Sullivan’s lead to 3-1.
The Lady Bulldogs continued to chip away at the scoreboard and cut their deficit to one with six minutes to go.
Despite St. Clair’s efforts to tie, Sullivan had the final bite over their conference rivals. Defender Dorie Richardson locked St. Clair out of their defensive third, and goalie Chloe Carson shut the door with three saves.
Tessa Newman played a crucial role, leading Sullivan with two assists in their second win. Kara Schmidt also helped set up a score for the Lady Eagles.
Jada Adams led her team with five shots, while Eden Lambert fired two and Molly Lohden made one.
Festus 6, Sullivan 1
The Lady Eagles were tested a day later against an undefeated opponent. They struggled to stop Kaylin Brewer of Festus, who ended up eclipsing a career-high five goals.
Greife was the only Lady Eagle able to reach the board, and Kirk assisted her on the score.
Alaina Wall and Giebler each attempted a goal against Festus.
Carson clutched four saves as Sullivan’s starting goalkeeper. Schmidt subbed her out during the second half and prevented two shots.
