Girls Soccer Pours Their Heart Out On The Field
Sullivan’s girls soccer team soared to another exciting, action-packed season in 2024. The veterans poured their hearts out on the field and guided the young guns in firing away to their greatest potential.
The Lady Eagles finished with a 15-8-2 record and capped off their year in the Class 2 District 4 Semifinal round against Helias Catholic. They went 5-2 at home, 4-4 away and 6-2-2 in tournaments. Sullivan scored 2.9 goals per game and only allowed an average of 1.4 points.
Dorie Richardson won the Four Rivers Conference Defensive Player of the Year award. As one of the team captains, the junior played a crucial role in locking down the mid-and-back field and taking possession of the ball. She also earned All-Conference and All-District First-Team honors. Richardson recorded a goal, an assist and a shot for her offensive stats.
Jada Adams was another captain for the Lady Eagles last season and was selected for the All-District First Team and All-Conference Second Team. The junior broke away with 45 shots, 14 goals and seven assists.
In her final season, Cambria Pohlman led Sullivan with 67 shots as one of the team’s captains. The senior racked up eight assists and tied for the highest number of goals made at 16. She made it onto both the All-Conference and All-District Second Teams.
Tessa Newman also stacked up 16 scores while firing 33 shots and an assist. She received an All-District Honorable Mention as a sophomore.
Molly Lohden loaded up a team-high 14 assists and was selected to the All-District First Team. The junior logged 36 shots and five goals.
Senior Hayli Venable earned All-Conference Second Team honors for her aggressive spirit on the field. She unleashed six shots, two goals and an assist.
Freshmen Ava Hayes and Ella Kirk made waves in their first season. Hayes tallied 29 shots, seven goals and five assists, while Kirk notched seven shots, two goals and two assists.
Eden Lambert collected four shots, three goals and an assist during her rookie year.
Addison Wagner added eight shots and three goals.
Kara Schmidt launched four shots and two assists.
Junior midfielder Gabi Camacho drew up three shots, a goal and an assist.
Avaleigh Parks made a goal, an assist and a shot.
Alyssa Johnson and Andi Giebler both contributed two assists.
Maria Schatzl started as Sullivan’s goalie for 22 games in her final year at the net. The senior clutched 70 saves and was named to the All-District and All-Conference Second Teams.
Karen Dietzler protected the net for 106 minutes last season, starting one match and securing nine saves.
Schmidt had one start as Sullivan’s goalkeeper and played for 100 minutes.
Abby Smith, Alaina Wall, Scarlett Hulsey and Avery Merkel were the other Lady Eagles who contributed to the team’s success in 2024.
Zehn Porter, who had to sit out her senior season due to an injury, still kept the team’s morale high on the sidelines. One of the year’s highlights came on Senior Night against DeSoto, when she delivered the opening kick-off as her swan song to Sullivan.
