Girls Soccer Fends Off Lady Lions In 8-0 Win

The Lady Eagles (10-5-2) left nothing on the table in an 8-0 shutout over Crocker (6-8) on Wednesday, Apr. 17.

Tessa Newman ended the game by delivering the final score with sixteen minutes to go. She, Jada Adams and Eden Lambert all tallied a goal on a shot.

Cambria Pohlman had a strong game with a team-high five shots and three assists. She also recorded two goals.

Ava Hayes broke away for two goals and three shots.

Molly Lohden loaded up two shots, a goal and an assist.

Kara Schmidt made her first start as Sullivan’s goalkeeper against Crocker. She made her first career appearance at the net in the final 20 minutes of the Union game the day before.

Four minutes into the Union match, Pohlman kicked Sullivan off to a hot start with a one-goal lead. She capitalized on a corner kick and propelled it toward Lady Lion goalie Brooke Gan, who accidentally tapped it into the net for Sullivan’s first score.

The Lady Eagles continued to fire strikes left and right at the net. After several attempts, Lohden reloaded with another shot in her arsenal and launched it high to seize a 2-0 lead.

Then, just a minute later, Pohlman tossed the ball to Eden Lambert, who slid it to Ava Hayes. As a den of Lady Lions cornered her, Hayes quickly chipped it in for a goal.

Lambert came in crucially on another score again. She aired the ball near Gan; it rolled away from the net, and Pohlman rescued it by blasting in Sullivan’s fourth point.

Hayes capped off the first half with her second goal of the game and sixth of the season. With three minutes left on the board, the freshman charged down the field juked a couple of Lady Lions and sniped it in.

Pohlman’s corner kicks came in handy again to ignite the second half. Newman head-butted the ball over to Adams, who fired it across the goal line to capture a 6-0 lead.

Then Lambert, who had fired on all cylinders throughout the game, notched her second goal of the season midway through the second period.

As the clock reached 24 minutes in the half, Sullivan put the Lady Lions to rest with their eighth goal. Pohlman charged at the net propelled the ball into the air and sent it to Newman, who put the final nail in the coffin. All the Lady Eagles soared over to Newman and thanked her for the early send-off to their spring break.
