Girls Basketball Hoops In Fourth Place At Hillsboro
The Lady Eagles (6-10) sank in fourth place at the Hillsboro Tournament, held from Jan. 27 to Feb. 1. They started strong with a 59-51 victory over St. Charles (8-9), but later lost 60-35 to the hosting Hawks (14-2) and 47-43 to North County (12-6).
St. Charles
In the opening round, Katie Miller topped Sullivan with 19 points, three assists and two steals. She shot nothing but net, going 5-9 from the field and 6-7 from the charity stripe. The junior also hit the glass for two rebounds and stuffed a shot. Miller was later named to the All-Tournament Team.
Molly Lohden was also lights out at the rim, making 4-4 free throws and 3-4 field goals. She loaded up 10 points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Cora Shetley dominated the boards, leading with seven rebounds. She also dropped 6 points, dished out an assist and snatched a steal. The senior went 4-6 from the free-throw line.
Karlee Head racked up six rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block. She sank six points, draining 3-4 free throws and one shot from downtown.
Lily Schmuke broke away with 6 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Kynlee Peterson put up 6 points, three rebounds and an assist.
Ava Hayes collected 2 points, two rebounds and a steal.
Ella Kirk logged 4 points, a rebound and an assist.
Avery Merkel snagged two rebounds and a steal.
Olivia Barton bagged a rebound and a steal.
The Lady Eagles soared with 29 rebounds, 11 assists, nine steals and two blocks. They went 16-34 on field shots, 11-25 on two-pointers, 5-9 on threes and 22-27 on free throws. Sullivan gave up 21 turnovers and 19 fouls against the Pirates.
