Girls Basketball Comes Up Short 43-34 To Shamrocks

The Lady Eagles (5-15) came up just short against New Haven (9-11) in a 43-34 loss at home on Thursday, Feb. 8.

Sullivan head coach Jordan Flora explained that to win these close games, “We’re going to have to come out and work on putting four quarters together.”

The first time both teams went head-to-head this season was on Jan. 11, when the Lady Shamrocks swept Sullivan 48-16.

Flora recognized some improvements in their most recent matchup compared to their previous. “I think we played better tonight. The first time we played, we ended up losing by about 30. They shot the ball very well. And tonight, I thought we executed pretty well defensively, but we got to hit some more shots,” he stated.

Freshman guard Karlee Head pulled off a team-high 13 points, eight rebounds and 3 steals. She also had an assist and a perfect 2-2 free throw ratio.

Junior forward Cora Shetley was the second-highest scorer with 10 points. She also held a 3-5 field goal ratio, four rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Junior guard Molly Lohden made two three-pointers for six points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Senior guard Delaney George led the team in assists with 3. She also collected 2 points, two rebounds and a steal.

Senior guard Raegan Johnson grabbed 3 points and two rebounds.

Senior guard Hayli Venable had a rebound and assist.

Junior forward Rayna Claus got 2 rebounds.

As the Lady Eagles are in the final stretch of their schedule, Flora aims to continue to work with his girls on staying consistent and “resilient.” He stated, “We’re going to have to handle pressure and just shoot the ball pretty well and just compete, man. That’s all I ask. You know, work hard, compete, and anything can happen.”
