Football Falls To Raiders At Home
The Eagles (5-4) lost their final regular-season game to North County (6-3) on Thursday, Oct. 24. The Raiders powered to a 35-8 victory, while Sullivan failed to continue their four-game winning streak.
The Eagles and Raiders held one another to eight points in a defensive slugfest of a first half.
Sullivan executed a fake punt at the end of the first quarter, leading to their only game score. Blue received the snap and sliced through North County for 23 yards. Jennings juked the Raiders for a 14-yard gain in the red zone, leading Blue to plow through the plane for a touchdown. York snuck in the extra two points, stretching his arm across the goal line for the 8-0 lead.
North County found its offensive rhythm after halftime, scoring 27 points. Sullivan could not return to the end zone, falling at home to the Raiders.
Along with his touchdown, Blue tallied 96 yards on 17 rushes.
Mark Jennings led on the ground with 110 yards on 20 carries.
Nathan Garcia picked up 26 yards on the gridiron, while Robert York II scrambled for six and Oliver Borton gained four.
Eagles quarterback York was picked off twice.
Sullivan took the number-two seed in Class 4 District 2. They will start postseason play at home against seventh-seeded Affton (2-7). The quarterfinal will occur on Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. The Eagles last faced the Cougars four years ago and beat them 18-0 to advance to the semifinal.
If Sullivan wins, they will face sixth-ranked Bayless/Hancock (2-7) or rematch third-seeded Pacific (4-5) the following Friday.
Fourth-ranked Union (2-7) and fifth-seeded Roosevelt (2-7) will also clash against one another in the quarterfinals.
Gateway (9-0) clinched the top seed to earn a first-round bye.
The Class 4 District 2 Championship will occur on Saturday, Nov. 15.
St. Clair is the conference champion, going undefeated (6-0) against Four Rivers opponents. Sullivan (5-1) took second, followed by Hermann (4-2), Pacific (3-3), Union (2-4), St. James (1-5) and Owensville (0-6).
