Football Falls 21-7 To Rival St. Clair
St. Clair (2-2) intercepted a would-be touchdown pass with six minutes to go, spoiling Sullivan’s (1-3) comeback hopes. The Eagles gave it their all until the end but fell 21-7 on Friday, Sept. 20.
Two seasons ago, Sullivan stunned the Bulldogs in the district championship, taking the title in a 14-13 victory. St. Clair sought their revenge a year later, winning an offensive shootout over the Eagles by a score of 46-41.
Sullivan hopes to bounce back against Pacific on Homecoming night. The Indians last beat Sullivan for the district title in 2023. The two conference teams will clash on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
Against St. Clair, Sullivan picked up 192 total yards on offense, with 173 rushing and 19 passing.
Mark Jennings led the Eagles with 85 yards on the ground and had ten carries. He also caught a twelve-yard reception.
Robert York II scrambled for 38 yards outside of the pocket.
Chase Blue picked up 35 yards, and Oliver Borton ran for 15.
Eagles quarterback York completed two passes on his seven attempts, throwing for 19 yards. He gave up two interceptions.
Seth Valley made a nine-yard catch.
The Bulldogs racked up two touchdowns in the first half while Sullivan attempted to catch up. With 15 seconds left until halftime, Eagles returner Braxton Breen capitalized on a squib kick to place his team at midfield. Sullivan hoped to take advantage of it, but an interception halted their rally.
The Eagles reset in the locker room, looking to turn the game around in the third quarter. Sullivan received the ball first and steamrolled through the gridiron into the end zone. Jennings split through the defensive line for eight yards. Sullivan capitalized on a personal foul to move the sticks. Jennings worked his magic again, cutting to the left for 29 yards. After York made a fake handoff to Blue, he snuck through a gap and crossed the plane for a score. Kaden Smith kicked the ball into the uprights, leaving Sullivan with seven points on the board.
