Eagles Wrestling Team Are District Champions

The Sullivan Eagles wrestling team has been steamrolling opponents all season and their hard work is paying off. The boys scored 228 points to bring home the district team championship. The Eagles have eleven boys going to State which was the most members out of the 15 schools there. Ste. Genevieve had 213 points in second place and St. Clair followed with 158. St. James was in fourth place with 118, and St. Mary’s rounded out the top five with 88.

Camden Henderson is the 106 champion and is headed to State. He received a bye in the first two rounds and pinned Herculaneum’s Tyler Pieper at 2:54 in the semifinals. Henderson pinned William Nick of Central Park Hills at 3:20 to win the championship.

Carter Blankenship medaled in third place for 113 and is headed to State. He pinned Potosi’s Levi Dicus at twenty-three seconds in the first round. In the quarterfinals, Blankenship pinned Kennett’s Jackson Todd in thirty seconds. He was pinned in the semifinals by Blake Marlatt of St. James at 1:37. In the consolation semifinals, Blankenship pinned St. Clair’s Grayson Langan at forty-one seconds. He medaled in third when he pinned Samuel Mullins of Central Park Hills at 1:30.

Oliver Borton’s stellar season came to an end at 120. He received a bye in round one and, in the quarterfinals, fell to Austin Hassel of Central Park Hills by a 12-3 major decision. Borton received a bye in the next round and pinned Jaxon Abernathy of MICDS in fifty-five seconds in the round after that. In the consolation semifinals, Borton was pinned by Kennett’s Gavin Patterson at 4:46.

Sam Hecht medaled in third at 126 and is headed to State. He received byes in the first two rounds. In the semifinals, Hecht fell to Isaiah Basler of Ste. Genevieve by a 8-3 decision. He defeated St. Clair’s Creek Hughes by a 6-0 decision in the consolation semifinals. Hecht took the third place medal when he defeated Dexter’s Conrad Purnell by a 14-0 major decision.

Eli Peregoy took home the second place medal for 132 and is headed to State. He received a bye in the first round and defeated Mathew Clark of Central Park Hills by a 14-0 major decision in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Peregoy defeated Owen Drury of Ste. Genevieve by a 12-8 decision. He fell in the first place match by a 6-5 decision by Dexter’s Eric Harmon.

Dominic Ransom medaled in third place for 138 and is headed to State. He won by a technical fall of 17-1 at 4:50 over Kennett’s Spencer Potts in the first round. In the quarterfinals, Ransom defeated Dylan Schacht of St. James by a 11-6 decision. In the semifinals, Ransom fell by a sudden victory 6-4 to Gage Gross of Ste. Genevieve. In the consolation semifinals, he defeated St. Mary’s Leo Niyonizigiye by a 11-4 decision. Ransom pinned Dylan Schacht in the third place match at 4:23.

Draysen Nolie medaled in second place and is headed to State. He received a bye in the first round and pinned Logan Crocker of St. James in the quarterfinals at 3:48. In the semifinals, Nolie pinned St. Clair’s Cole Horton at 3:46. He was pinned by Herculaneum’s Keaton Reeves at forty-two seconds in the first place match.

Adam Peregoy took home the second place medal for 150 and is headed to State. He received a bye in the first round and pinned Herculaneum’s Chase Payne at fifty-three seconds in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Peregoy defeated Owensville’s Gabriel Soest by a 17-2 technical fall at 5:54. He fell in the first place match by Grant Rodriguez of St. James by a sudden victory of 6-4.

Colton Brendel medaled in third place for 157 and is headed to State. He pinned Potosi’s Devin Sandefur in twenty-two seconds in round one. In the quarterfinals, Brendel pinned Affton’s Antonio Muyco at 1:03. He fell to Mason Langeneckert of Ste. Genevieve by a 11-3 major decision in the semifinals. In the consolation semifinals, Brendel won by a 17-1 technical fall at 2:34 over St. Mary’s Kyan Clymer. He medaled in third when he defeated Cody Wilfong of St. James by a 15-0 technical fall at 3:30.

Wieland Schmuke took home the third place medal for 165 and is headed to State. He received a bye in the first round and pinned Grant Nicholson of MICDS in the quarterfinals at 1:38. In the semifinals, Schmuke pinned Madden Wolk of Ste. Genevieve at 3:36. In the first place match, Schmuke loss by a 14-6 major decision by St. Clair’s Connor Sikes.

Parker Montee’s great season came to an end at 175. In the first round, he was pinned by St. Mary’s Jamarion Taylor at 3:09. He received a bye in the next round. In consolation round two, Montee was pinned by Affton’s Josiah Lovelace at 1:32.

Jordan Rice is the district champion for 190 and is headed to State. He pinned Dexter’s Carson Mullins at 1:31 in the first round. In the quarterfinals, Rice pinned Owensville’s Brendan Kramme at 1:17. He pinned Dalton McBride of Ste. Genevieve at 3:14 in the semifinals. In the first place match, he pinned St. Mary’s Braeden Stotts at 1:56.

Jeremiah Rodriguez was the district champion for 215 and is headed to State. He pinned Owensville’s Logan Bailey at fifty seconds in the first round. In the quarterfinals, Rodriguez pinned St. Clair’s Zeke Bethel at 1:42. He pinned Affton’s Tristin Dusold at 2:48 in the semifinals. Rodriguez won the championship when he defeated Potosi’s Aden Martinez by a 10-6 decision.

Nolan Center’s prominent season came to an end for 285. He received a bye in the first round and was pinned by Dexter’s Kolin Simpson in the quarterfinals at 5:09. In the consolation round two, he pinned Affton’s Patrick Hopfinger at thirty-five seconds. In the third round of consolation, Center pinned Ben Petersen of MICDS at 1:53. In the consolation semifinals, Center fell to Herculaneum’s Shea Eberhardt by a 7-0 decision.
