Eagles Win Games On Thursday And Friday

The Sullivan Eagles basketball team is on a roll. After an early week defeat of DuBourg, Sullivan kept up the momentum into Thursday and Friday. The De Soto Dragons traveled to Sullivan and the Eagles slayed the Dragons, 58-47. Sullivan won the next night by three in Cuba against the Wildcats, 23-20.

DeSoto

Sullivan took control of the Dragons early and didn’t falter. Head Coach Dino McKinney took a timeout with a little over a minute left in the first quarter when Sullivan was up, 15-7. Gavin Dace netted two free throws to end the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Sullivan kept up the momentum. Sam Summers sailed in a layup and drew the foul. He added two more free throws and De Soto’s Drew Hardin added another layup. Chris Glaser drained a big three and the crowd went wild. Drake Gawer netted a layup off the glass after Summers added a free throw. Hardin netted a three point basket and De Soto’s Head Coach DJ Hardy took a timeout with a little less then two and a half minutes left. De Soto’s Aidyn Mitchell landed two layups and Kirk added a layup in between the two. De Soto’s Cole McClinton landed a much needed three point basket to end the first half. Sullivan was still up, 30-19.

In the third quarter, De Soto tried to bridge the gap, but Sullivan held the lead. Summers sailed a layup and free throw. McClinton landed two layups, but Gawer netted a three point basket between the two layups. Gawer slapped a huge block on the defense and the crowd went wild. McClinton kept up the momentum for the Dragons with a huge three point after De Soto’s Nick Sampson added a layup. Summers sailed in a free throw, before De Soto’s Dominique Bourn landed a layup. Aiden Kirk connected a huge three point basket and Coach McKinney took a timeout with a little over two minutes left. Summers added another free throw and Bourn added another layup. McClinton landed two layups at the buzzer, 42-34.

In the final quarter, the Eagles secured the win. Mitchell sailed in a much needed three and Kirk added a basket from the free throw line. Gavin Dace sank a layup and drew the perfect foul. He added a free throw and De Soto’s Brayden Brown landed a layup. Gavin Dace netted a layup and De Soto’s Blake DeRousse sank in a three pointer. De Soto took a timeout with four minutes and twenty seconds left. Gabe Dace slammed a three pointer and Kirk connected with another three pointer right after. Summers sailed in a free throw and Coach McKinney took a timeout with a little over a minute left. Cole McClinton sailed in a huge three point basket and Kirk finished off the Dragons with three free throws. Sullivan slayed the Dragons, 58-47.

Kirk led in points with 17 and was followed by Summers with 15. Gavin Dace got nine points. Gabe Dace and Glaser each recorded six points. Gawer finished with five points.

The Eagles forced five turnovers and Gawer got a steal. They finished with 26 rebounds on defense. Kirk led with nine. Summers and Gavin Dace each had five. Gabe Dace recorded three. Gawer and Glaser each had two rebounds.

Cuba

The Eagles collapsed Cuba the next day on the road. Their stellar record stands at 10-4 so far. Sullivan’s momentum into Friday led them to defeat all three teams this week. The boys secured the win by three points against the Wildcats, 23-20.

Gavin Dace led points this time with eight and Kirk followed with seven. Summers made four. Glaser and Gabe Dace finished with two points.

Sullivan’s defense was outstanding again and forced 19 turnovers. They had five steals and Kirk and Gabe Dace each led with two. Gavin Dace notched one. The Eagles secured 19 rebounds and Kirk led with seven. Gabe Dace followed with four. Gavin Dace and Summers each had three and were followed by Gawer and Glaser, who each had one.
